Extract fan cleaning near Arundel

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That is our job.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

About our extract fan cleaning in Arundel

Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract fans since 2009. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and full insurance. The work covers in-line fans, axial fans and roof-mounted fans, and common reasons people get in touch are a motor area thick with grease and a noisy fan that has got louder over time.

Kitchens around a place like Arundel are often in older buildings or single-storey extensions, where the duct may cross a roof void or climb an outside wall. Long horizontal runs like that hold grease and need access panels to reach.

A written report with photos follows each visit, so you have a record of what was done and when. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Arundel questions

Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Arundel during the holidays?

Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. There are about 2 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Arundel. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Arundel?

Kitchens in Arundel are inspected by Arun council’s environmental health officers. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.

Who is responsible for fire safety on the premises?

In the words of the Fire Safety Order 2005, it’s the responsible person. It’s normally the employer, or whoever controls the building, and where several people have control, each can have duties. If you’re not sure, check your lease and fire risk assessment.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes. There’s a 24/7 emergency line, for problems that cannot wait. Ring any time and tell us what’s happened.

What do you do with what you remove?

Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. We don’t leave it behind.

Will I get pictures of the cleaned fan?

A photo report shows the fan before and after. Full system cleans come with a TR19 certificate as well.

How long does extract fan cleaning take?

Size, access and build-up all affect it. Typically it takes an hour or two for most single fans.

What about areas you can’t get to?

Anything we can’t reach goes on the report, with a note of where it is, and we tell you what would make it reachable, for example new access panels.

How the visit works

At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and it goes on the report too. The visit takes a few hours where there are several fans or heavy deposits. Visits to a place like Arundel are planned ahead, so we arrive with what the survey says the job needs.

  1. First we locate the fan and agree how it’s safely isolated.
  2. Power to the fan is isolated before anyone touches it.
  3. Grease is scraped from the impeller blades and the inside of the housing.
  4. Blades, housing and the area around the motor are degreased with care.
  5. It’s closed up, run and checked, and pictures go into your report.

How to prepare

  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids

How to get a quote

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

What affects the cost of extract fan cleaning

The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:

  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • How big the system is

Every site is different, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.

Asking for a quote

There’s no need for technical detail. Just send:

  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it

We do not publish a price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To start, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

Kitchen extracts in Arundel

Food Standards Agency data counts about 27 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 3 takeaways and sandwich shops within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Arundel. Any of those kitchens with a canopy relies on a fan that gathers grease as it runs. In Arundel, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Arun council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we’ll send a fixed quote.

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We are happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.

Between visits

Results last longer with the right care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Tell us if the extract feels weaker
  • Never cook with a filter missing
  • Keep records of every fan clean
  • Keep access to the fan clear

If the fan needs more than a clean, we will say so plainly. Fan repair and replacement are services we offer too, so you have one point of contact.

Fewer grease particles reaching the fan means less build-up. Clean, well-seated filters are the fan’s first protection, and replace any that are damaged.

Part by part

Roof-mounted fans

Grease can escape from a roof fan onto the surrounding surface, so the outlet area is checked too. We note any grease around the fan.

Kitchens with long cooking hours

In a busy kitchen, the fan rarely gets a rest, which means grease and wear add up quickly. Regular cleans help it keep going.
