Ductwork cleaning in Winterbourne, Kent
Cleaning of kitchen extract ductwork, horizontal runs and vertical risers through access panels for commercial sites in Winterbourne and across Kent. BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease.
- Duct runs with no cleaning record
- Thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct
- Grease seeping out of the duct seams
Ductwork cleaning in Winterbourne, done properly
Many ducts were installed with too few access doors. Where a section cannot be reached, TR19 expects it to be recorded on the report, and new panels can be fitted to reach it in future. It’s better to know than to assume. If you have a duct nobody has opened in years and a duct clean needed for an insurer, we can help.
Somewhere as small as Winterbourne, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.
For insurers and inspectors, the record counts. That’s why every job is written up in a report with pictures, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

Different parts, different methods
Horizontal duct runs
Long horizontal runs need access panels at regular intervals. Any stretch out of reach is noted and can fit extra panels.
Vertical risers
Risers carry the extract up through the building to the roof. Grease collects on the walls and at the foot of the riser, which is one of the points we test.
When something else is needed
A few issues sit outside what this work can do:
- Ductwork that’s corroded, split or holed (that needs a ductwork contractor)
- Parts of the duct with no way in
- A damper stuck open in the duct
If you’re not sure, just call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What happens on the day
Protection comes first: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. Then we make the system safe and start. The work on site takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Winterbourne and turn up when the site is quiet.
- The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
- Grease thickness is measured at set points.
- Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
- Heavy deposits come out by hand, then each section is degreased.
- Panels are closed, readings and photos repeated, and unreachable sections recorded.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms

Related advice
Winterbourne: your questions answered
Do you work overnight in Winterbourne?
Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. The work in Winterbourne can fit around your hours. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.
Do you work in villages like Winterbourne?
Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Winterbourne is covered. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.
Can you quote from pictures?
In many cases, yes. With good photos, the site type and your last report, we can price many jobs. Larger or hidden systems need a survey on site first.
How do you clean inside the ductwork?
After a survey and grease readings, the duct is opened up through its access panels. We clean the runs and risers section by section, then the readings are repeated.
Is TR19 cleaning required by law?
No. The law sets the duty; TR19® is the benchmark used to show it’s met. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, the responsible person must reduce fire risk, and many insurers can refuse or reduce a claim without proof of cleaning.
How do you know if the ductwork needs cleaning?
Signs include grease dripping from joints, smells and a fan working harder, but measuring is the reliable way to know. A WFTT or DTT reading gives a clear answer.
Do I get a certificate for ductwork cleaning?
A full system clean comes with a TR19 certificate and a photo report. It includes readings, pictures and any unreachable sections.
Do you work with multi-site operators?
Yes. We work across South East England and London, so sites at different addresses can be planned together as one programme. Each site gets its own report and photos.
Managing agents and facilities teams in Winterbourne
For anyone managing more than one site, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so each one has its own record.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

What affects the cost of ductwork cleaning
The quote reflects the site in front of us. We consider:
- The times the site is available
- The condition we find in the survey
- How big the system is
- Travel, parking and unloading
You won’t find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. For a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line, and we’ll explain what it covers.
What to send for a quote
Many jobs can be priced from photos and some basics. Send what you can of the following:
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
- A few general shots of the system
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
- Any previous report or certificate
The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
What happens if it’s left?
There’s no law that names TR19. The Fire Safety Order 2005 makes the responsible person assess and reduce fire risk, and grease in the duct is part of that. If the system at a site near Winterbourne fails, there may be nowhere nearby to move to.
The cost depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so you know where you stand.

Ductwork cleaning in Winterbourne: the local picture
There are about 5 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Winterbourne, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Behind every canopy among them is a run of ductwork that collects grease out of sight. Kent Fire and Rescue Service covers Winterbourne. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. Environmental health officers from Swale council inspect food businesses in Winterbourne. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.
A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Christ Church or elsewhere in Winterbourne, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Winterbourne is Eastbridge Hospital of St Thomas the Martyr, about 5.1 miles east. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Boughton-under-Blean and Dunkirk Primary School or anywhere near Winterbourne, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

Winterbourne’s nearest station is Selling station, about 1 mile south-west of the centre. Staff cleaning versus specialist work
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.
Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.
