Fixed quotes for ductwork cleaning in Tiddington

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:

  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • The size of the system
  • What state the system is in

What you pay depends on the size of the system, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so there are no surprises.

What to send for a quote

Photos let us diagnose from a distance. The most useful are:

  • A few general shots of the system
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • The postcode and the type of business
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall

If you need ductwork cleaning in Tiddington, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us. Tell us what kind of premises it is and when it’s open, and send photos or your last report if you can. A fixed quote normally follows within one working day.

Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Tiddington

Grease in a duct is hidden, which is exactly why it’s dangerous. A flare-up drawn up from the range can light it, and fire can then run along the ductwork to other parts of the building. Removing it is the whole point. We are often asked to deal with thick crusts of old grease along the duct and grease pooling at the foot of the riser, across access panels, attenuators and horizontal duct runs.

In a village or hamlet like Tiddington, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are typically a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. On top of that, we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Different parts, different methods

Multi-storey and shared buildings

A fire in a duct in a shared building can affect far more than one kitchen, which makes keeping it clean all the more important. The paperwork suits landlords and managing agents.

Access panels

Panels have to seal properly once they’re closed so the duct stays tight. A damaged panel is noted on the report.

Why it’s worth doing now in Tiddington

Under BESA guidance, the mean grease level should stay at or below 200 microns between cleans. Anywhere that reaches 500 microns or more needs immediate spot cleaning. Leaving the duct makes those limits harder to keep to. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.

One small site or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the timing. You will have a fixed price before any work starts.

What we do, step by step

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before work begins, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points. Seeing the system in pictures first means the trip to Tiddington can be planned properly.

  1. We start by working out how the duct runs and where it can be opened.
  2. Set points along the runs are tested for grease.
  3. Through the access panels, thick grease is removed by hand first.
  4. Next the ducts and risers are degreased, using whatever suits the deposit.
  5. Post-clean readings and photos go into the report, with any unreachable section listed.

Before we arrive

  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive

Advice

Your questions about ductwork cleaning in Tiddington

Do you work at weekends in Tiddington?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. Your customers, staff or residents in Tiddington needn’t be disturbed. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

Can school kitchens in Tiddington be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. Food Standards Agency records list about 2 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Tiddington. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

Which accreditations do you hold?

CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 9001 and BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We’re fully insured and have been trading since 2009.

How do you keep the site clean during the work?

With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. We keep the work contained and leave the area clean.

How often does extract ductwork need cleaning?

BESA guidance sets minimum intervals by daily cooking hours: every 3 months for 12 to 16 hours, 6 months for 6 to 12 hours and 12 months for 2 to 6 hours. Grease readings may show it needs doing sooner.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. Photos often do the job, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.

What do you do with what you remove?

Waste is contained during the work and removed when we leave, including grease, debris and dirty water. None of it is left on site.

How much does ductwork cleaning cost?

We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: the size of the system, its condition, access and when we can work. You get a fixed price before we start.

Keeping the system healthy

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it helps at the next visit:

  • Flag drips from the duct right away
  • Diarise the next duct clean
  • Run the extract fan throughout service
  • Consider fitting panels where the report shows gaps

Every panel we open is refitted when we finish, and the area around them is cleaned down. Grease and dirty water are contained and removed.

Some signs mean the duct needs attention sooner: grease leaking from duct joints, smells, or a fan that sounds rough. A grease thickness test can confirm whether a spot clean is needed.

Grease, kitchens and Tiddington

Food Standards Agency data counts about 9 restaurants, cafés and works canteens across Tiddington and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Behind every canopy among them is a run of ductwork that collects grease out of sight. In Tiddington, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from South Oxfordshire council. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service covers Tiddington. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

A hospital like Thame Community Hospital, about 3.9 miles east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. Where a hall near Church of St Helen, or anywhere in Tiddington, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

What we’re called out for in Tiddington

Slow air leaves the most grease behind. Flat runs, bends, reducers and the base of risers are the usual hotspots, and those are the points we pay most attention to.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • Heavy grease at the base of a riser
  • Duct runs that can’t be reached
  • Duct runs with no cleaning record
  • High readings at a recent grease test

Historic houses near Tiddington, such as Adwell House about 4.5 miles south-east, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes.

What a clean won’t put right

Not every problem is solved by ductwork cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It does not solve:

  • Duct sections that need replacing
  • Fire dampers that don’t close (they need testing and remedials)
  • Duct sealed behind fixed ceilings or walls

If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will say what we think before you book.
