What happens if it’s left?

Insurers know the risk of a greasy duct. Many policies require TR19 cleaning, and a claim may be refused or reduced without evidence. Your certificate and photo report show the ducts were cleaned. Planning a trip to Stones Green ahead is easier for everyone than a rushed one.

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before work begins.

Questions from Stones Green

Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Stones Green?

Fire safety enforcement in Stones Green is handled by Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

Can school kitchens in Stones Green be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. Around Stones Green, the Food Standards Agency lists about 2 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us with your term dates and we will plan around them.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, to suit the system and how it’s used.

Can you price the work without visiting?

Yes, where the pictures show enough. If not, a site survey comes first, then a fixed quote.

Can extra access doors be added to the duct?

Yes. We’ll point out where panels are needed, and we can fit them so those sections are cleaned in future.

What’s the cleaning interval for extract ductwork?

The minimum depends on how long the kitchen cooks each day: every 3 months for 12 to 16 hours, 6 months for 6 to 12 hours and 12 months for 2 to 6 hours. Measured grease sets the real interval.

What happens if you can’t reach some of it?

The report shows them clearly. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, which we can install.

Are you accredited?

CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 9001 and BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We’ve been trading since 2009 and we are fully insured.

When something else is needed

We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what ductwork cleaning will not do:

  • Duct sealed behind fixed ceilings or walls
  • Leaking duct joints that need repair
  • A duct that’s too small or badly routed for the kitchen (a design issue)

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

Grease, kitchens and Stones Green

Stones Green is within about 3 miles of the coast. Metal on the roof weathers faster close to the coast, and the extract fan and cowl are no exception. Fire safety in Stones Green falls to Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. Kitchens in Stones Green get their food hygiene inspections from Tendring council. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Wix and Wrabness Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Thorpe Hall is about 3.3 miles south), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning.

Stones Green is about 5 miles south-west of Harwich, in Essex. Sites in Stones Green get the same service as everywhere we cover: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with photos. Across Essex, we cover 644 places, Stones Green among them. There’s also a page for Chelmsford, about 30 miles away.

Every address in CO12 is covered for ductwork cleaning, from the main roads to the quietest streets. Between visits

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Diarise the next duct clean
  • File each certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
  • Don’t block access panels with shelving or stock
  • Keep grease filters clean and fitted whenever you cook

Access panels are closed and sealed back up after cleaning, and the area around them is cleaned down. Waste grease and water are taken away.

Run the extract the whole time the kitchen is cooking. When the air stops, grease settles in the duct, so switching off early adds to the build-up.

What the work involves, part by part

Attenuators and discharge

The last section of duct before the discharge is often the coolest, which can mean heavier deposits. We include it in the clean and the readings.

Horizontal duct runs

Flat runs of duct link the canopy to the riser or the outside wall. Grease drops out of the slowing air along them, so each section is cleaned through its access panels.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit produces a dated report with photos, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across Essex. Larger estates can be phased building by building around the people who use them.

How it works

Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. Then we make the system safe and start. It takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Stones Green and turn up when the site is quiet.

  1. First we diagnose: the route, the access and the grease levels.
  2. A fixed quote follows, based on what we found.
  3. We clean section by section, working from panel to panel.
  4. We take extra care at bends and at the foot of risers.
  5. Readings, photos and a recommended next clean date complete the job.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive

Ask for a quote

Here’s what helps us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, photos of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

Advice

What staff can safely do

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.
