Ductwork cleaning in Row Green
Duct cleaning is the hardest part of an extract clean, and the part most often skipped. Sections with no way in can go uncleaned for years. We open up every reachable section and record any we cannot reach, so you know exactly where you stand. If you have grease pooling at the foot of the riser and grease leaking from duct joints, we can help.
In a village or hamlet like Row Green, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are typically a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease, whatever the size of the place.
Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a dated report with pictures of the work, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

Why deal with it now?
Under BESA guidance, the mean grease level should stay at or below 200 microns between cleans. A reading of 500 microns or more at any point means a spot clean straight away. Leaving the duct makes those limits harder to keep to. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.
No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

What a clean will not put right
Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:
- A failed fan motor at the end of the duct (a fan repair job)
- Ductwork that was poorly designed
- Ductwork that’s corroded, split or holed (that needs a ductwork contractor)

How the visit works
The first job on site is protection: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to Row Green.
- We trace the duct and find every way in.
- We take grease readings along the route.
- Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
- Thick grease is scraped out, then the runs and risers are degreased.
- Panels are closed, readings and photos repeated, and unreachable sections recorded.
Getting ready for the visit
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
- Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
Ask for a quote
Quotes are quick. Call or email with a few details and you’ll normally have a fixed price within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.
Related advice
Part by part
Horizontal duct runs
Horizontal runs carry the extract along ceilings and through voids. They collect grease as the air cools and slows, and we clean them section by section through access panels.
Vertical risers
Risers often pass through floors and walls, so fire dampers may be fitted where it crosses them. Damper testing is a separate service.
Between visits
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:
- Keep your cleaning records together
- Have the grease measured if cooking hours go up
- Keep the fan on while anything is cooking
- Flag drips from the duct right away
Any section of duct we couldn’t reach is listed on the report, with the reason. You can then decide whether to have access panels fitted.
Watch for warning signs between cleans: drips from the ductwork, stale smells or a noisy fan. A grease thickness test can confirm whether a spot clean is needed.
Common problems we fix in Row Green
Air cools as it moves away from the canopy. Cooling air drops its grease onto the inside of the duct, so duct runs keep collecting grease long after the canopy.
Common reasons sites call us are:
- Duct runs with no cleaning record
- Grease seeping out of the duct seams
- Proof of duct cleaning for the insurer
- Thick crusts of old grease along the duct
A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near The Church in Great Notley or elsewhere in Row Green, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.
Questions to ask before you book

Row Green: your questions answered
Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Row Green?
Kitchens in Row Green are inspected by Braintree council’s environmental health officers. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.
Can a school canteen extract in Row Green be done out of term time?
Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. There are about 5 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Row Green. Just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with your term dates and we’ll plan around them.
When is the ductwork cleaned?
Only while we are working, and we work around you. Most kitchens book overnight or weekend cleans, so no service is lost.
Do you have insurance?
Yes, fully. CHAS and SafeContractor accreditation sit alongside it, for sites that check contractor safety.
Can you quote from photos?
Often, yes. With good pictures, the site type and your last report, we can price many jobs. Where we cannot see enough, we arrange a survey.
What accreditations do you have?
We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. The Vent Hygiene Elite scheme is run by BESCA and audited independently.
Do you work with multi-site operators?
Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites on one programme. Every site has its own report.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. The work is kept contained and leave the area clean.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Whether it’s one building or many, the standard is the same: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with photos.
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.
