Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Oakley
Duct Doctor has cleaned kitchen extract ductwork since 2009, working across London and the South East. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, our duct cleaning is done to BESA TR19® Grease, with each certificate issued through the BESCA portal. The work covers bends and junctions, multi-storey ducts and access panels, and common reasons people get in touch are gaps where access panels were never fitted and duct runs with no cleaning record.
In a smaller place like Oakley, many kitchens sit in older buildings or later extensions, where the duct may cross a roof void or climb an outside wall. Flat runs collect grease and need proper access to clean.
The report is your system’s health record: dated, with photos, and showing what was done. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal and sits alongside the report.

Different parts, different methods
Bends and transitions
Grease tends to pile up at elbows. It’s scraped out and degreased, and readings are taken there before and after.
Vertical risers
A riser takes the duct up through one or more floors. Grease collects on the walls and at the foot of the riser, which is one of the points we test.
What your team can do, and what needs us
A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That is our job.
When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We will take a look and give you a fixed quote.
What affects the quote in Oakley
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:
- A single visit or a regular plan
- What state the system is in
- Any permits to work or inductions
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
You won’t find a price list here, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711, or email photos, and we will talk you through it.
Asking for a quote
Many jobs can be priced from photos and some basics. Send what you can of the following:
- Your last certificate, test record or report
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your photos and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before any work starts.

Grease, kitchens and Oakley
Look up Oakley on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you will find about 5 restaurants, cafés and works canteens in and around Oakley, up to about a mile and a half out. The duct above a busy canopy coats itself in grease long before anyone sees it. Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service covers Oakley. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. Food hygiene inspections in Oakley are the job of South Oxfordshire council’s environmental health team. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.
School kitchens, at schools like Mill Lane Community Primary School for example, are typically cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Adwell House is about 3.2 miles west), access may need planning.
Oakley is about 4 miles south-east of Thame, in Oxfordshire. Whether your site is in the middle of Oakley or further out, ductwork cleaning is available to all kinds of commercial premises, from small sites to large estates. Oakley is one of 443 places in Oxfordshire we cover for commercial clients. There’s also a page for Oxford, roughly 14 miles from Oakley.
All of OX39 is covered for ductwork cleaning, from the main roads to the quietest streets. We cover sites on Mill Lane, Beech Road and Oakley Lane and nearby roads. If your site is just outside Oakley, we cover Crowell (1 mile south-west), Kingston Blount (1 mile south-west), Crowell Hill (1 mile south-east), Aston Rowant (2 miles south-west) and Postcombe (3 miles west). Within a short drive, we also cover Oxford (14 miles west), Didcot (15 miles south-west), Thame (4 miles north-west), Henley-on-Thames (12 miles south), Benson (10 miles south-west) and Headington Quarry (13 miles west).
Local landmarks in Oakley
Around Oakley, our work takes us to kitchens and buildings near The Wheatsheaf pub, among other places. Oakley’s nearest station is Princes Risborough station, about 3.5 miles east. Well-known places in the area include Thame Community Hospital (3.8 miles north-west). Open spaces near Oakley include Bald Hill and Oakley Hill nature reserve.
Between visits
After the visit, a few habits help the work last:
- Store the certificate with the fire risk assessment
- Run the extract fan throughout service
- Book the next clean before the recommended date
- Check readings when the menu changes
Keep the certificate and report with the fire risk assessment. An insurer, fire officer or EHO may ask to see it, and the photos make the duct’s condition easy to see.
The less grease gets past the canopy, the cleaner the duct stays. Clean, properly seated filters are the duct’s best protection.
Why act early in Oakley
A fire in a greasy duct is hard to reach and hard to stop. The duct can carry it to rooms, floors or roof spaces well away from the kitchen, which is why the duct matters as much as the canopy. Systems on quieter sites still build up dirt and wear, just more slowly.
Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.

Signs you need ductwork cleaning in Oakley
Grease filters that don’t seal let fat straight through. More grease reaches the ductwork than it should and it fills faster.
Look out for any of the following:
- Grease pooling at the foot of the riser
- Stale grease odours from the duct
- Proof of duct cleaning for the insurer
- Grease leaking from duct joints
If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Thame Community Hospital about 3.8 miles north-west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.
Questions to ask before you book
- Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
- What records you will receive afterwards
- Proof of accreditation you can verify
- When the next visit should be, and why
Questions from Oakley
Do you work in villages like Oakley?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.
Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Oakley?
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Oakley. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
What happens if you cannot reach some of it?
Anything we can’t reach goes on the report, with photos where possible, and we tell you what would make it reachable, for example new access panels.
What do you do to protect the area?
By covering it before any work starts. The work is kept contained and leave the area clean.
Can extra access doors be added to the duct?
Yes, we fit access panels where the duct needs them. It means more of the duct can be cleaned next time, and the report will show where they’re needed.
What’s TR19?
TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and we will quote them together.
How long will the duct clean take?
Duct length, access and grease levels all affect it. As a guide, it takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers.
What happens on the day
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before any work starts, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access. Because the survey comes first, a visit to Oakley can normally be finished without a second trip.
- First the duct route is traced and every access point noted.
- Grease readings are taken at set points along the duct.
- Access panels are opened and heavy deposits scraped out by hand.
- The duct is degreased with the method that suits the grease, from degreasers to hot water or steam.
- Readings and pictures are repeated and any section we couldn’t reach is recorded.
Before we arrive
- Let us know about parking and loading
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
- Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need

Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.
