Ductwork cleaning across Oakley

Ductwork cleaning in Oakley

In doctor’s terms, the ductwork is the system’s arteries: diagnose where grease has built up, clear it and confirm the result. Grease readings before and after give you the evidence, alongside before and after photos. We are often asked to deal with fat dripping from the ductwork and stale grease odours from the duct, across access panels, bends and junctions and horizontal duct runs.

In a smaller place like Oakley, many kitchens sit in older buildings or later extensions, where the duct may cross a roof void or climb an outside wall. Long horizontal runs like that hold grease and need access panels to reach.

We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

What we do, step by step

Everything the job needs comes with us, including protection sheets, the right tools and access kit. You only need to give us clear access and switch off what needs to be off. The visit takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access. Evenings, weekends or a closed day all work for a site in a place like Oakley.

  1. We start by working out how the duct runs and where it can be opened.
  2. Set points along the runs are tested for grease.
  3. Access panels are opened and heavy deposits scraped out by hand.
  4. Next the ducts and risers are degreased, using whatever suits the deposit.
  5. Post-clean readings and photos go into the report, with any unreachable section listed.

How to prepare

  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Clear the space around the work

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before we start.

FAQs for Oakley

Which council inspects kitchens in Oakley?

Kitchens in Oakley are inspected by Basingstoke and Deane council’s environmental health officers. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

Is Oakley within the area you cover?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Oakley included. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

Do you install duct access panels?

Yes. We’ll point out where panels are needed, and we can fit them so those sections are cleaned in future.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Some photos and a quick description of the system plus the address and your hours. If we need more, we will ask.

How long does it take to clean extract ducts?

A short duct can be cleaned in a few hours, but long or complex ducts may take several visits. Visits are planned out of hours.

Which accreditations do you hold?

BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We’ve been trading since 2009 and we’re fully insured.

Do we have to stop cooking while the ducts are cleaned?

We plan the clean when you’re not cooking. Most kitchens book overnight or weekend cleans, so no service is lost.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, with the emergency line covering every other hour.

Between visits

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Report any grease dripping from duct joints
  • Don’t switch the extract off early
  • Have the grease measured if cooking hours go up
  • Book the next clean before the recommended date

The report names every part of the duct that couldn’t be reached and why. You can then decide whether to have access panels fitted.

Extra access panels mean more of the duct gets cleaned each time. It doesn’t stop grease forming, but it stops it building unseen.

What ductwork cleaning cannot fix

We won’t sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so here are the limits:

  • A failed fan motor at the end of the duct (a fan repair job)
  • A duct that is too small or badly routed for the kitchen (a design issue)
  • Duct sealed behind fixed ceilings or walls

If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will say what we think before booking.

What affects the quote in Oakley

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We check:

  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • The scale of the work

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.

Helping us quote

What to send for a quote:

  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • A few general shots of the system
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • The site address and the type of premises

For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. We usually come back within one working day.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

What happens if it’s left?

TR19® is not law, but the duty to manage fire risk is. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and grease in the duct is part of that. It’s easy to lose track of when the work was last done on a quieter site.

What you pay depends on the size of the system, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before work begins, so there are no surprises.

About 50 miles out from central London, Oakley is part of the South East area we work across. A survey and a fixed quote come first, then the visit at a time that suits you. Food hygiene inspections in Oakley are the job of Basingstoke and Deane council’s environmental health team. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near St John's, or anywhere in Oakley, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Oakley CE Junior School or anywhere near Oakley, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.
