Fixed quotes for ductwork cleaning in Newnham
The quote reflects the site in front of us. We consider:
- Parking and loading at the site
- The times the site is available
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- What state the system is in
Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.
Helping us quote
To speed up the quote, send us:
- The site address and the type of premises
- Problems your staff have spotted
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- Your last certificate, test record or report
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in pictures, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
About our ductwork cleaning in Newnham
Duct Doctor has cleaned kitchen extract ductwork since 2009, working across London and the South East. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, our duct cleaning is done to BESA TR19® Grease, with each certificate issued through the BESCA portal. Typical jobs include thick crusts of old grease along the duct and a grease test showing the duct is overdue, across bends and junctions, horizontal duct runs and multi-storey ducts.
In a small place like Newnham, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.
We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. We are also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

What we do, step by step
Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. Then we make the system safe and start. It takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Newnham, let us know and we will plan around it.
- We start by working out how the duct runs and where it can be opened.
- We measure grease thickness at set points before cleaning.
- Access panels are opened and heavy deposits scraped out by hand.
- Next the ducts and risers are degreased, using whatever suits the deposit.
- We test again, take pictures and note any part that couldn’t be reached.
Preparing for the visit
- Have your last certificate or report to hand
- Move anything stored near the system
- Tell us where we can park and unload
Getting a quote
To help us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, pictures of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.
Advice
Aftercare tips
A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:
- Have the grease measured if cooking hours go up
- Book the next clean before the recommended date
- File each certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
- Leave a way through to the access panels
Every panel we open is refitted when we finish, and the surrounding area is left clean. Grease and dirty water are contained and removed.
Extra access panels mean more of the duct gets cleaned each time. Grease you can reach is grease that gets removed.
Newnham kitchens: local notes
The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 4 bars, pubs and nightclubs and about 5 hotels and B&Bs across Newnham and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. Food hygiene inspections in Newnham are the job of Basingstoke and Deane council’s environmental health team. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Newnham is covered by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.
Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital (about 5.2 miles west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St. Nicholas, or anywhere in Newnham, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.
Newnham is about 5 miles east of Basingstoke, in Hampshire. Newnham is one of 683 places in Hampshire where we work for commercial clients. For sites nearby, see our Reading page, about 12 miles away.

Your questions about ductwork cleaning in Newnham
Which fire authority looks after Newnham?
It’s Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Newnham. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.
Can you come to Newnham after we close?
Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. The work in Newnham can fit around your hours. When you phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos, mention when the site is quiet.
What about areas you can’t get to?
We never leave them off the paperwork. You will know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.
What information do you need?
Where the site is, what it is and when it’s open, along with a few photos and any previous report.
Who has the legal duty for fire safety?
The Fire Safety Order 2005 calls them the responsible person: often the employer, owner or occupier. Landlords, facilities managers and managing agents can also hold responsibility.
How much does ductwork cleaning cost in Newnham?
The cost depends on the size of the system, its condition, access and timing. Call for a fixed quote, typically ready within one working day.
How much notice should we give?
Book as early as you can for planned work, particularly if your next visit is nearly due. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.
Can you clean ductwork with no access panels?
Every reachable section is cleaned and the rest recorded. Extra panels can be installed, and we can do that for you.
Multi-site and managed buildings
If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and photos, so records stay tidy.
From a single site to a large estate, the standard is the same: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with photos.
How the job changes from site to site
Bends and transitions
A bend can hold far more grease than a straight run of the same length. It’s scraped out and degreased, and readings are taken there before and after.
Multi-storey and shared buildings
In a shared building, the duct links the kitchen to other spaces, so the responsible person has more reason to keep it clean. Your certificate and report give building managers the record they need.
What we are called out for in Newnham
Risers carry the extract up through the building. Grease clings to the walls and can run down to the base as liquid grease runs down. Panels along the riser make proper cleaning possible.
The symptoms we’re asked about most include:
- Smells of old cooking grease from the ductwork
- Duct runs that cannot be reached
- Grease pooling at the foot of the riser
- Years of grease along the duct floor
Historic houses near Newnham, such as The Vyne about 4.6 miles west, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes.
What your quote should include
- How areas they can’t reach will be recorded
- How they set the interval to the next visit
- Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
- Whether the quote shows VAT
Why deal with it now?
Dealing with the ductwork in Newnham now beats dealing with it after a problem. It takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points, done out of hours so the kitchen keeps cooking. In a place like Newnham, ductwork and fans are easy to forget until something goes wrong.
Combining work into one visit or one programme often makes better use of the time. Mention every system or site you need covered, and you will get one fixed quote.
