Low Street ductwork cleaning
Our technicians work in Low Street on ductwork cleaning. Fixed quotes, work around your opening hours and photo reports as standard.
- Readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test
- Thick crusts of old grease along the duct
- Smells of old cooking grease from the ductwork
What ductwork cleaning cannot fix
Ductwork cleaning can’t fix everything, and we will tell you before we start. It does not solve:
- Duct sections that need replacing
- Sections that can’t be reached safely without new access (those are recorded, and panels can be fitted)
- A damper stuck open in the duct
Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll tell you honestly.

How we handle ductwork cleaning in Low Street
Duct Doctor has cleaned kitchen extract ductwork since 2009, working across London and the South East. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and our certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. The work covers attenuators, bends and junctions and multi-storey ducts, and the jobs we see most are grease leaking from duct joints and a duct clean needed for an insurer.
In a small place like Low Street, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.
We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we are fully insured. On top of that, we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

How the visit works
Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. The visit itself takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Low Street before we set off.
- The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
- We take grease readings along the route.
- Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
- Thick grease is scraped out, then the runs and risers are degreased.
- Panels are closed, readings and pictures repeated, and unreachable sections recorded.
Preparing for the visit
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
- Agree a time when the area can be out of use
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system

Common problems we fix in Low Street
The further the air travels from the cooking, the cooler it gets. Cooling air drops its grease onto the inside of the duct, so duct runs keep collecting grease long after the canopy.
Any of these means the system needs a check-up:
- Grease leaking from duct joints
- Readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test
- Thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct
- Proof of duct cleaning for the insurer
For kitchens close to East Tilbury station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight.
Before booking anyone
- Exactly which parts of the system are covered
- When the next visit should be, and why
- Whether the quote is based on a survey or pictures
- How areas they cannot reach will be recorded
What the work involves, part by part
Bends and transitions
Wherever the duct turns or changes size, grease builds up. The air slows and drops its load, so we clean these points carefully.
Access panels
We can fit new access panels where the duct needs them, making future cleans more complete. The survey shows where they’re needed.
Multi-site and managed buildings
When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We are happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.
Whether it’s one building or many, you get the same standard: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with photos.

The coast is only about 1 mile from Low Street. Near the sea, the fan and discharge at the top of a kitchen extract corrode faster than they would inland. There are about 5 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 8 takeaways and sandwich shops in Low Street and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Behind every canopy among them is a run of ductwork that collects grease out of sight. The fire and rescue service for Low Street is Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.

What staff can safely do
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. That’s our job.
Common questions in Low Street
Who is the fire and rescue service for Low Street?
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Low Street. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.
Who inspects food businesses in Low Street?
That’s Thurrock council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Low Street. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.
How do you keep the site clean during the work?
Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before any work starts, and anything we remove is contained. At the end, the area is cleaned down.
Will the duct clean disrupt the kitchen?
Only while we’re working, and we work around you. Overnight and weekend work is common, so no service is lost.
Will I get a report after the ducts are cleaned?
Every clean comes with a photo report, and a full TR19 clean also comes with a certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Keep both in the maintenance log.
Are you accredited?
Our accreditations are CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and we will quote them together.
Do you install duct access panels?
Yes. We’ll point out where panels are needed, and fitting them means future cleans are more complete.
Aftercare tips
How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Have the grease measured if cooking hours go up
- Keep to the interval on the report
- Flag drips from the duct right away
- File each certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
A full system clean includes a TR19 certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. It records the date, the location and the technician.
Extra access panels mean more of the duct gets cleaned each time. It doesn’t stop grease forming, but it stops it building unseen.
