Ductwork cleaning for sites in Ley Green

Ductwork cleaning in Ley Green

We treat ductwork like a doctor treats arteries: find the blockages, clear them, then check the flow is right. Readings taken before and after show the difference, alongside before and after photos. The work covers multi-storey ducts, vertical risers and access panels, and people most often call us about a grease test showing the duct is overdue and hardened, baked-on grease in long horizontal runs.

In a village or hamlet like Ley Green, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are typically a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease.

For insurers and inspectors, the record counts. So every job comes with a written report and photos, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Ley Green questions

Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Ley Green during the holidays?

Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. The FSA’s register shows about 3 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Ley Green. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

Do you work at weekends in Ley Green?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. That way a site in Ley Green doesn’t have to lose a day’s trading. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

What does TR19 mean?

TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. Every job is surveyed first, either from pictures and details you send or on a site visit. Then you get a fixed quote.

How long will the duct clean take?

Short runs are quick, while long ducts and tall risers can need more than one visit. We plan the work around your kitchen.

Who has the legal duty for fire safety?

In the words of the Fire Safety Order 2005, it’s the responsible person. That’s generally the employer or the person in control of the premises, and where several people have control, each can have duties. Your lease and fire risk assessment should make it clear.

What accreditations do you have?

BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We’re fully insured and have been trading since 2009.

How is kitchen extract ductwork cleaned?

Each section is cleaned through its own panel. Heavy grease comes out by hand, and what’s left is degreased, with readings taken before and after.

The process

Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and it goes on the report too. All told, the work takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points. Somewhere like Ley Green, lanes, gates and parking are worth mentioning in advance.

  1. First we diagnose: the route, the access and the grease levels.
  2. You get a fixed price before work starts.
  3. Each section is cleaned in turn through its access panel.
  4. We take extra care at bends and at the foot of risers.
  5. Readings, photos and a recommended next clean date complete the job.

How to prepare

  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time

Advice

Multi-site and managed buildings

If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so records stay tidy.

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

Do you need ductwork cleaning in Ley Green?

Grease filters that do not seal let fat straight through. More grease reaches the ductwork than it should, and build-up speeds up.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • Thick crusts of old grease along the duct
  • Smells of old cooking grease from the ductwork
  • Heavy grease at the base of a riser
  • Ductwork that has never been cleaned

Knebworth House, about 4.9 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses near Ley Green; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions.

What your quote should include

  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or photos
  • Whether the price is fixed
  • Whether the work can be done while the site is closed

Grease, kitchens and Ley Green

Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. Ley Green is covered by Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. Food hygiene inspections in Ley Green are the job of North Hertfordshire council’s environmental health team. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.

A hospital like Lister Hospital, about 4.5 miles east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. What staff can safely do

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that is where we come in.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

What affects the cost of ductwork cleaning

You’ll get a fixed price before any work starts. It’s based on:

  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • The condition we find in the survey
  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • The scale of the work

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all make a difference.

Asking for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:

  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • A few general shots of the system

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your pictures and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. Then we send a fixed price, before work begins.

Why act early in Ley Green

A partly blocked duct slows the airflow. Less air moves, so heat and smoke stay in the kitchen while the fan strains, and grease may start to leak from joints. If the system at a site near Ley Green fails, there may be nowhere nearby to move to.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we survey first, from photos or on site, and the price is agreed before we start.

Why book with us

  • A single point of contact for sites across the South East and London
  • CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, with ISO 9001
  • A written report with photos after each visit
  • BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease

Different parts, different methods

Bends and transitions

A bend can hold far more grease than a straight run of the same length. We clean it back by hand and with degreaser, and test it before and after.

Attenuators and discharge

The last section of duct before the discharge is often the coolest, so it can collect more grease than expected. We include it in the clean and the readings.
