How we handle ductwork cleaning in Kemsley
Ductwork in Kemsley is cleaned the same thorough way as everywhere else we work: we test the grease first, remove thick deposits by hand and degrease what’s left. Readings are taken again afterwards and pictures go into your report. We are often asked to deal with ductwork that has never been cleaned and gaps where access panels were never fitted, across horizontal duct runs, attenuators and access panels.
Kitchens around a place like Kemsley are often in older buildings or single-storey extensions, where the duct may cross a roof void or climb an outside wall. Long horizontal runs like that hold grease and need access panels to reach.
We have been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.

How the visit works
At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and the same goes into the written report. All told, the work takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points. Visits to a place like Kemsley are planned ahead, so we arrive with what the survey says the job needs.
- First the duct route is traced and every access point noted.
- Grease readings are taken at set points along the duct.
- Through the access panels, thick grease is removed by hand first.
- The duct is degreased with the method that suits the grease, from degreasers to hot water or steam.
- We test again, take pictures and note any part that couldn’t be reached.
Before we arrive
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
- Let us know about parking and loading
Getting a quote
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your photos and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before we start.

Fixed quotes for ductwork cleaning in Kemsley
We do not publish a price list, because sites vary so much. The quote depends on:
- The size of the system
- The number of sites or systems
- Where the site is and how we reach it
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
What you pay depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.
What to send for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can send:
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- A few general shots of the system
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
To get a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few photos and your last certificate or report help a lot. You’ll typically have a quote within one working day.
What the work involves, part by part
Vertical risers
Cleaning a riser needs access along its height. Any part that can’t be safely reached is recorded.
Access panels
Extra panels can be installed where there are gaps, so the next clean reaches more of the system. We’ll recommend where they should go.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
Kemsley kitchens: local notes
Sea air reaches Kemsley, which sits within about 1 mile of the coast. Salt in the air is hard on rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings, so we check them for corrosion as well as grease. Look up Kemsley on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 65 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 33 takeaways and sandwich shops in Kemsley and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Where they cook under a canopy, grease does not stop at the filters: it settles along the duct and up the riser. It’s Swale council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Kemsley. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.
Church and community hall kitchens, near Parish Church of the Holy Trinity or anywhere around Kemsley, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. A kitchen near Kemsley station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Kemsley Primary Academy, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

Around Kemsley
Locally, jobs take us to businesses close to Milton Creek Country Park, The Three Hats Inn and Borden Grammar School, among other places. Kemsley has its own railway station: Kemsley station. Nearby you’ll also find Castle Rough (0.6 miles east) and Court Hall Museum (0.8 miles south-west).
Looking after it afterwards
A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. We recommend:
- Store the certificate with the fire risk assessment
- Check readings when the menu changes
- Do not switch the extract off early
- Keep access panels clear of stored items
Any section of duct we couldn’t reach is listed on the report, with the reason. You can then decide whether to have access panels fitted.
The less grease gets past the canopy, the cleaner the duct stays. Keep the filters clean, well fitted and in place whenever you cook.

FAQs for Kemsley
Is Kemsley within the area you cover?
Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Kemsley included. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Which fire service covers Kemsley?
That’s Kent Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.
What’s TR19?
TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. You deal with one contact for every site in our area, and visits can be set on a regular cycle.
Is a quote from pictures possible?
Often, yes. Photos of the system and the access, plus your opening hours and last report, are often enough. Where we can’t see enough, we arrange a survey.
What types of premises do you cover?
Commercial premises of every kind: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. Work is timed around how each site runs.
What do you do with what you remove?
It leaves the site with us when we go. During the work, it’s contained so the area stays clean.
What if parts of the system can’t be reached?
We record them on the report, with photos where possible, and we explain what access is needed, such as extra access panels in ductwork.
Why act early in Kemsley
Insurers know the risk of a greasy duct. Many policies require TR19 cleaning, and a claim may be refused or reduced without evidence. Your certificate and photo report show the ducts were cleaned. Systems on quieter sites still build up dirt and wear, just more slowly.
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Problems in a system tend to grow, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re not sure what’s needed, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.
Why us?
- In business since 2009
- Out-of-hours work and a 24/7 emergency line
- One contact for all your sites in London and the South East
- BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease
Managing agents and facilities teams in Kemsley
We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works, and we will send a fixed quote.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.
