Between visits
So the system stays in good health:
- Diarise the next duct clean
- Check readings when the menu changes
- Keep your cleaning records together
- Flag drips from the duct straight away
The report gives a recommended next clean date, worked out from the grease we found and how long you cook each day, in line with BESA guidance.
Grease that never reaches the duct never needs cleaning out of it. Keep the filters clean, well fitted and in place whenever you cook.
Multi-site and managed buildings
Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit produces a dated report with pictures, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.
From a single site to a large estate, the standard is the same: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with pictures.
Istead Rise kitchens: local notes
The FSA’s data shows about 3 bars, pubs and nightclubs registered in Istead Rise and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. In Istead Rise, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Gravesham council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Istead Rise is covered by Kent Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.

Historic houses near Istead Rise, such as Cobham College about 2.3 miles south-east, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes.

Your questions about ductwork cleaning in Istead Rise
Who is the fire and rescue service for Istead Rise?
It’s Kent Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Istead Rise. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.
Will you come out to Istead Rise?
Yes, Istead Rise is part of our area, however small the site. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7, for problems that can’t wait. Ring any time and tell us what’s happened.
How often does extract ductwork need cleaning?
It follows the same interval as the whole extract, from every 3 months for heavy use to every 12 months for light use. Grease thickness testing shows whether that’s often enough.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. Full insurance covers our work and have been trading since 2009.
Which sectors do you work in?
Commercial premises of every kind: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. Work is timed around how each site runs.
Can you price the work without visiting?
Yes, where the photos show enough. Otherwise, we book a survey at a time that suits the site, and the quote follows that.
What happens to the waste?
We take it away when we go. During the work, it’s contained so the area stays clean.

When it’s something else
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what ductwork cleaning will not do:
- Parts of the duct with no way in
- Fire dampers that do not close (they need testing and remedials)
- Ductwork that was poorly designed
Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will tell you honestly.
What the work covers
- Multi-storey ducts
- Horizontal duct runs
- Bends and junctions
- Access panels
- Vertical risers
- Attenuators
What we are called out for in Istead Rise
Grease filters that don’t seal let fat straight through. More grease reaches the ductwork than it should, and build-up speeds up.
If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:
- Grease pooling at the foot of the riser
- A rancid smell from the extract duct
- An insurer asking for TR19 evidence
- Duct runs that can’t be reached
Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Saint Barnabus Church, or anywhere in Istead Rise, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.
Before you book anyone
- What records you will receive afterwards
- When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
- Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
- Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
How we price ductwork cleaning
Sites vary more than people expect. The main factors:
- The condition we find in the survey
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
- Site rules, permits and inductions
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
Working hours, access and the scale of the site all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before any work starts.
What we need to know
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. We look at your system first, from pictures or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To get going, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.
Part by part
Vertical risers
Risers carry the extract up through the building to the roof. Grease collects on the walls and at the foot of the riser, which is one of the points we test.
Access panels
Every section of duct is cleaned through an access panel. Where there are none, those sections cannot be cleaned, and TR19 expects them to be recorded.
What happens on the day
We turn up at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before any work starts, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers. The timing of a visit to Istead Rise is set by you, and the travel is our side of the planning.
- Diagnosis: a survey of the duct’s route, size and access.
- You get a fixed price before work starts.
- We clean section by section, working from panel to panel.
- We take extra care at bends and at the foot of risers.
- Readings, pictures and a recommended next clean date complete the job.
Before we arrive
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Clear loose items from the work area
- Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
Get a fixed quote
Getting a quote does not take long. Call or email with a few details and you will normally have a fixed price within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.
