Ductwork cleaning in Hounslow

Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Hounslow

Ductwork in Hounslow is cleaned the same thorough way as everywhere else we work: we test the grease first, remove thick deposits by hand and degrease what’s left. Readings are taken again afterwards and pictures go into your report. The work covers bends and junctions, vertical risers and multi-storey ducts, and the jobs we see most are duct runs that can’t be reached and grease seeping out of the duct seams.

Across London, many commercial kitchens are squeezed into basements and narrow back-of-house spaces, with extract ducts that can climb several floors to discharge at roof level. In Hounslow, as elsewhere in the capital, a long duct run means more access points to open and more grease to remove.

Every visit ends with a written report and pictures, so you have a record of what was done and when. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. That’s our job.

Signs you need ductwork cleaning in Hounslow

Grease filters that don’t seal let fat straight through. More grease reaches the ductwork than it should and it fills faster.

It’s time to book a visit if you see:

  • Gaps where access panels were never fitted
  • Fat dripping from the ductwork
  • A rancid smell from the extract duct
  • Thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St Dunstan or elsewhere in Hounslow, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Before booking anyone

  • If they look at the system before pricing
  • Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
  • Whether a written report and photos are included

Our hiring checklist

How we price ductwork cleaning

Sites vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule

What you pay depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so you know where you stand.

Helping us quote

We can often survey from pictures. The most useful are:

  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • The postcode and the type of business

Need a price for ductwork cleaning? Please call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and tell us about the site. We’ll talk you through the work and give you a fixed quote before you commit to anything.

Between visits

How long the results last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Keep grease filters clean and fitted whenever you cook
  • Ask us about extra access panels where sections cannot be reached
  • File each certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
  • Check readings when the menu changes

Access panels are closed and sealed back up after cleaning, and the area around them is cleaned down. Waste grease and water are taken away.

Have access panels fitted where sections cannot be reached. It does not stop grease forming, but it stops it building unseen.

Part by part

Horizontal duct runs

Grease settles on the floor of a flat duct run. Thick deposits are scraped out by hand before degreasing, then the walls and roof are cleaned too.

Attenuators and discharge

The discharge is where the duct ends and air leaves the building. It can gather grease and mark the wall or roof around it, so it’s cleaned as far as safe access allows.

What ductwork cleaning looks like in Hounslow

There are about 62 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 40 takeaways within about 1.5 miles of central Hounslow, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Where they cook under a canopy, grease doesn’t stop at the filters: it settles along the duct and up the riser. Food hygiene inspections in Hounslow are the job of Spelthorne council’s environmental health team. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after. Hounslow is covered by London Fire Brigade. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

For kitchens close to Sunbury station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight. A hospital like Ashford Hospital, about 1.9 miles north-west, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

Hounslow questions

Which fire authority looks after Hounslow?

London Fire Brigade is the fire and rescue service for Hounslow. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Hounslow in the summer holidays?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. Food Standards Agency records list about 28 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Hounslow. Just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos with your term dates and we’ll plan around them.

How often does extract ductwork need cleaning?

At least as often as BESA guidance sets for your cooking hours. Heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day means at least every 3 months, while lighter use can go longer.

Are you insured?

Yes. We carry full insurance, and we have been trading since 2009.

How do you clean inside the ductwork?

After a survey and grease readings, the duct is opened up through its access panels. We clean the runs and risers section by section, then the readings are repeated.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, depending on what the system needs.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

Commercial premises of every kind: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. Work is timed around how each site runs.

What do you do to protect the area?

We start with protection: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.

How the visit works

Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and the same goes into the written report. The visit takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers. Loading bays, visitor permits and roof access are the first things we ask about for a site in Hounslow.

  1. The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
  2. Grease thickness is measured at set points.
  3. Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
  4. Heavy deposits come out by hand, then each section is degreased.
  5. Panels are closed, readings and pictures repeated, and unreachable sections recorded.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
