Need ductwork cleaning in Horton Kirby?

Ductwork cleaning in Horton Kirby

Not every duct has enough access panels. TR19 calls for any section we couldn’t reach to be recorded, and we can fit new access panels so it’s cleaned next time. It’s better to know than to assume. The work covers horizontal duct runs, vertical risers and attenuators, and the jobs we see most are a grease test showing the duct is overdue and duct runs that can’t be reached.

Somewhere as small as Horton Kirby, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Different parts, different methods

Multi-storey and shared buildings

Ducts in taller or shared buildings often run past other occupiers. Access is planned with the building’s managers, so the clean is done safely and quietly.

Vertical risers

Cleaning a riser needs access along its height. Where it cannot be reached safely, the report says so.

Horton Kirby questions

Will you come out to Horton Kirby?

Yes, Horton Kirby is part of our area, however small the site. A survey first, from pictures or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Horton Kirby?

In Horton Kirby, it’s Sevenoaks council that carries out food hygiene inspections. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, depending on what the system needs.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a single café to a large school. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Duct Doctor is fully insured, and we can share the details when you need them.

What information do you need?

Some pictures and a quick description of the system, with the address and opening hours. If we need more, we’ll ask.

What if part of the duct can’t be reached?

Every reachable section is cleaned and the rest recorded. Extra panels can be installed, and we can do that for you.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. Photos often do the job, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.

What happens if it’s left?

Under BESA guidance, the mean grease level should stay at or below 200 microns between cleans. Anywhere that reaches 500 microns or more needs immediate spot cleaning. Putting off the clean only pushes readings higher. With notice, the visit to Horton Kirby can be fitted around your bookings and events.

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, which can make the next visit longer. If you are unsure, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

What a clean will not put right

We’d rather tell you now than book work that will not help, so here are the limits:

  • A damper stuck open in the duct
  • An extract fan that has stopped working
  • Duct sections that need replacing

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Where we work

  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Vertical risers
  • Attenuators
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Bends and junctions
  • Access panels

The process

We’re used to working while the site is closed. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers. If you can send pictures, we can arrive in Horton Kirby knowing what to expect.

  1. We trace the duct and find every way in.
  2. Grease thickness is measured at set points.
  3. Out of hours, the area is protected and the access panels opened.
  4. Thick grease is scraped out, then the runs and risers are degreased.
  5. Panels are closed, readings and photos repeated, and unreachable sections recorded.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about parking and loading
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in

How to get a quote

We don’t publish a price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To get going, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

Looking after it afterwards

Simple habits between visits make a real difference. Our advice:

  • Run the extract fan throughout service
  • Ask for a grease thickness test if the kitchen gets busier
  • Keep access panels clear of stored items
  • Consider fitting panels where the report shows gaps

When the duct is cleaned as part of a full TR19® Grease clean, a TR19 certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. It shows when and where the clean was done and by whom.

Run the extract the whole time the kitchen is cooking. When the air stops, grease settles in the duct, so switching off early adds to the build-up.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.

We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements and we will come back with a fixed quote.

What staff can safely do

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that’s where we come in.

Grease, kitchens and Horton Kirby

The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 7 bars, pubs and nightclubs in and around Horton Kirby, up to about a mile and a half out. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Horton Kirby sits within the area of Kent Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. It’s Sevenoaks council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Horton Kirby. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

Healthcare kitchens cannot easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Horton Kirby is Darenth Park Hospital, about 3 miles north. For kitchens close to Farningham Road station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight. School kitchens, at schools like Horton Kirby Church of England Primary School for example, are normally cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.
