What ductwork cleaning cannot fix

We will not sell you work that does not address the problem, so these are the things it won’t cover:

  • Undersized or badly laid-out ducts
  • Ductwork that is corroded, split or holed (that needs a ductwork contractor)
  • A damper stuck open in the duct

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Ductwork cleaning in Heybridge

Every duct has its own route. A few metres to an outside wall, or a riser up through the building to a roof fan. We map the route during the survey, so we know where to get in and how long it will take. The work covers vertical risers, access panels and bends and junctions, and common reasons people get in touch are thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct and grease leaking from duct joints.

In a smaller place like Heybridge, many kitchens sit in older buildings or later extensions, with the duct running through a roof space or up an outside wall. Long horizontal runs like that hold grease and need access panels to reach.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

What affects the cost of ductwork cleaning

The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • The condition of the system
  • The scale of the work

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you are not sure what’s needed, ring 0345 646 2711 or email us for straight advice and a fixed quote.

What to send for a quote

When you contact us, these details help:

  • A few general shots of the system
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Common problems we fix in Heybridge

Grease filters that don’t seal let fat straight through. The duct then takes grease that the filters should have stopped and it fills faster.

Keep an eye out for these warning signs:

  • Ductwork that has never been cleaned
  • A rancid smell from the extract duct
  • A grease test showing the duct is overdue
  • Thick crusts of old grease along the duct

If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Heybridge Primary School or anywhere near Heybridge, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

What your quote should include

  • Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
  • What hours they’ll be on site
  • What’s included in the scope, part by part
  • If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate

What the work involves, part by part

Multi-storey and shared buildings

A fire in a duct in a shared building can affect far more than one kitchen, so the responsible person has more reason to keep it clean. The paperwork suits landlords and managing agents.

Access panels

We can fit new access panels where the duct needs them, so the next clean reaches more of the system. We’ll recommend where they should go.

Grease, kitchens and Heybridge

Heybridge is within about 2 miles of the coast. Corrosion on the fan housing and cowl is worth a look at every clean, alongside the grease. The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 21 pubs and bars and about 4 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses in and around Heybridge, up to about a mile and a half out. Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. Kitchens in Heybridge get their food hygiene inspections from Maldon council. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.

Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of St Andrew or anywhere around Heybridge, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

Questions from Heybridge

Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Heybridge during the holidays?

Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. Around Heybridge, the Food Standards Agency lists about 10 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Send us your term dates when you call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us, and we will fit the work in.

Does the sea air around Heybridge make a difference to ductwork cleaning?

Yes, to a degree: at about 2 miles from the coast, Heybridge gets salt-laden air that corrodes metal faster. A fan housing that’s rusting near the coast can fail sooner, so it’s worth catching early.

How much does ductwork cleaning cost in Heybridge?

Every site is different, so each gets its own fixed quote. For a quote, ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos with the site type, opening hours and a few photos.

What happens if there aren’t enough access panels?

Sections out of reach are written down on the report, in line with TR19. We can fit new access panels so they’re cleaned next time.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, to suit the system and how it’s used.

How do you keep the site clean during the work?

With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. We keep the work contained and clean down when we finish.

Which accreditations do you hold?

CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 9001 and BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We’re fully insured and have been trading since 2009.

Are you insured?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work and have been trading since 2009.

What happens on the day

There’s very little for your team to do on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and the rest is down to us. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. A site near Heybridge usually has room to park, so the questions are about access to the system and your hours.

  1. Diagnosis: a survey of the duct’s route, size and access.
  2. You get a fixed price before work starts.
  3. Each section is cleaned in turn through its access panel.
  4. We take extra care at bends and at the foot of risers.
  5. Readings, photos and a recommended next clean date complete the job.

How to prepare

  • Clear the space around the work
  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site

How to get a quote

Here’s what helps us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, pictures of the system and any previous report or certificate. Then ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Looking after it afterwards

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. Our tips:

  • Ask us about extra access panels where sections can’t be reached
  • File each certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
  • Tell us if grease leaks from the ductwork
  • Keep to the interval on the report

You will have a recommended date for the next clean, based on the readings and your daily cooking hours, in line with BESA guidance.

Book the next duct clean before the date passes. A change in cooking hours may change the interval under BESA guidance, and grease thickness testing will show it.
