Ductwork cleaning for sites in Hever

Ductwork cleaning in Hever

The ductwork is where an extract clean is won or lost. Sections with no way in can go uncleaned for years. We open up every reachable section and record any we cannot reach, so you know exactly where you stand. The work covers multi-storey ducts, access panels and bends and junctions, and the jobs we see most are a grease test showing the duct is overdue and stale grease odours from the duct.

For a kitchen in or near Hever, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

The sign-off is always in writing: a written report, dated and illustrated with pictures, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

Multi-site and managed buildings

From a single site to a large estate, the standard is the same: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. That’s our job.

Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.

Your questions about ductwork cleaning in Hever

Can the work in Hever be done at night or at weekends?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. The work in Hever can fit around your hours. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Hever during the holidays?

Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. With about 2 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Hever, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Send us your term dates when you call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, and we’ll fit the work in.

How much notice should we give?

For planned work, earlier is better, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.

Do we need to close while you work?

Not normally. The area we are working in has to be out of use while we are there, so we book a time when it would be closed anyway.

How do you know if the ductwork needs cleaning?

We measure it. Using a Wet Film Thickness Test or Deposit Thickness Test, we check the grease at set points. BESA guidance says the mean shouldn’t exceed 200 microns, and 500 or more anywhere needs immediate spot cleaning.

What’s involved in cleaning extract ducts?

Through access panels along the duct. Thick deposits are removed by hand before degreasing, such as degreasers, hot water or steam.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes, always. We diagnose before we treat: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need and the fixed quote is built on it.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We carry full insurance, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

The process

The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, and the sign-off is a written report with pictures. The middle part takes longest, and that takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points. The timing of a visit to Hever is set by you, and the travel is our side of the planning.

  1. We start by working out how the duct runs and where it can be opened.
  2. We measure grease thickness at set points before cleaning.
  3. We open the panels and scrape out the heaviest grease.
  4. The duct is degreased with the method that suits the grease, from degreasers to hot water or steam.
  5. Readings and pictures are repeated and any section we couldn’t reach is recorded.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids

What ductwork cleaning can’t fix

We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so here are the limits:

  • A worn-out fan that needs replacing
  • Duct sections that need replacing
  • Fire dampers that do not close (they need testing and remedials)

If you are not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Where we work

  • Access panels
  • Attenuators
  • Bends and junctions
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Vertical risers
  • Multi-storey ducts

Part by part

Access panels

Access panels are the doors that let us into the duct. Without them, parts of the duct cannot be reached, and TR19 expects them to be recorded.

Attenuators and discharge

Near the discharge, the air has cooled the most, so it can collect more grease than expected. We include it in the clean and the readings.

Fixed quotes for ductwork cleaning in Hever

We don’t publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. What we look at:

  • The size of the system
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • How easy every part is to reach
  • Any permits to work or inductions

We don’t list prices on the website, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, and we’ll explain what it covers.

Asking for a quote

Photos let us diagnose from a distance. Try to include:

  • Any previous report or certificate
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use

Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your photos and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before we start.

What ductwork cleaning looks like in Hever

Look up Hever on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 3 restaurants, cafés and works canteens in and around Hever, up to about a mile and a half out. The duct above a busy canopy coats itself in grease long before anyone sees it. It’s Sevenoaks council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Hever. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Fire safety in Hever falls to Kent Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Queen Victoria Hospital about 5.7 miles south-west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. Where a hall near Church of St Peter, or anywhere in Hever, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does. Bursars and site managers at schools such as Hever Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty.

Between visits

Good habits slow the build-up between visits. A few tips:

  • Keep access panels clear of stored items
  • Make sure filters are seated properly
  • Get panels fitted where the duct couldn’t be cleaned
  • File each certificate and photo report in the maintenance log

Any section of duct we couldn’t reach is listed on the report, with the reason. We can fit access panels so those sections are cleaned next time.

Keep the fan on throughout service. Moving air carries vapour through rather than letting it settle, so switching off early adds to the build-up.
