Ductwork cleaning for sites in Fawler

Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Fawler

No two duct runs are the same, in Fawler or anywhere else. Some run a short distance to an outside wall, others climb several floors to the roof. We map the route during the survey, so we know where to get in and how long it will take. The work covers multi-storey ducts, attenuators and vertical risers, and people most often call us about a duct clean needed for an insurer and a grease test showing the duct is overdue.

Somewhere as small as Fawler, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

How it works

The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, and the sign-off is a written report with photos. Most of the time goes on the work itself, which takes from a few hours to more than one visit, depending on duct length and access. Somewhere as small as Fawler, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. First the duct route is traced and every access point noted.
  2. Grease readings are taken at set points along the duct.
  3. Through the access panels, thick grease is removed by hand first.
  4. The duct is degreased with the method that suits the grease, from degreasers to hot water or steam.
  5. Post-clean readings and photos go into the report, with any unreachable section listed.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear the space around the work
  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions

Advice

What we’re called out for in Fawler

The further the air travels from the cooking, the cooler it gets. Cooling air drops its grease onto the inside of the duct, so duct runs keep collecting grease long after the canopy.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • Ductwork that has never been cleaned
  • Grease pooling at the foot of the riser
  • Proof of duct cleaning for the insurer
  • Years of grease along the duct floor

If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of the Holy Trinity or elsewhere in Fawler, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether the price is fixed
  • When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
  • What paperwork you get at the end
  • What’s included in the scope, part by part

What ductwork cleaning can’t fix

We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so these are the things it will not cover:

  • A duct that’s too small or badly routed for the kitchen (a design issue)
  • An extract fan that has stopped working
  • Duct sections that need replacing

If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will say what we think before booking.

What we work on in Fawler

  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Bends and junctions
  • Attenuators
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Vertical risers
  • Access panels

Looking after it afterwards

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. Our tips:

  • Store the certificate with the fire risk assessment
  • Ask us about extra access panels where sections cannot be reached
  • Check readings when the menu changes
  • Book the next clean before the recommended date

Every panel we open is refitted when we finish, and the area around them is cleaned down. Waste grease and water are taken away.

The less grease gets past the canopy, the cleaner the duct stays. Clean, properly seated filters are the duct’s best protection.

Different parts, different methods

Multi-storey and shared buildings

In a building with several floors, the duct may pass other tenants’ spaces. Access is planned with the building’s managers, so the clean is done safely and quietly.

Bends and transitions

The join where the canopy meets the duct is a common hotspot. We reach it from the plenum side where possible.

Ductwork cleaning around Fawler

Fawler is covered by Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. Environmental health officers from West Oxfordshire council inspect food businesses in Fawler. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

What affects the cost of ductwork cleaning

The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • Any permits to work or inductions

Working hours, access and the scale of the site all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before any work starts.

What we need to know

A few details help us quote accurately. With your enquiry, please include:

  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Fawler: your questions answered

Is Fawler within the area you cover?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Fawler included. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.

Can you come to Fawler after we close?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. Your customers, staff or residents in Fawler needn’t be disturbed. When you phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, mention when the site is quiet.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. You deal with one contact for every site in our area, with visits on a regular schedule.

How can I tell if my extract ducts are dirty?

Drips, smells and weak extraction are clues, but measuring is the reliable way to know. Grease thickness testing shows exactly where the duct stands.

How much notice should we give?

For planned work, earlier is better, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.

What do you do with what you remove?

Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. We do not leave it behind.

What paperwork do you give after a duct clean?

A full system clean comes with a TR19 certificate and a photo report. It includes readings, pictures and any unreachable sections.

Which accreditations do you hold?

We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. The Vent Hygiene Elite scheme is run by BESCA and audited independently.
