Ductwork cleaning in Dummer, done properly

Duct cleaning is the hardest part of an extract clean, and the part most often skipped. Sections with no way in can go uncleaned for years. Each section we can reach is cleaned, and any we cannot is written down, so you know exactly where you stand. Common call-outs are for an insurer asking for TR19 evidence and ductwork that has never been cleaned, across multi-storey ducts, horizontal duct runs and access panels.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

We’ve been trading since 2009, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

What ductwork cleaning cannot fix

To be straight with you, there are a few things this work will not fix:

  • Faulty fire dampers
  • An extract fan that has stopped working
  • Ductwork that was poorly designed

If you’re not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Attenuators
  • Bends and junctions
  • Vertical risers
  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Access panels

What happens on the day

There are three stages on the day: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, while signing off means the written report and photos. Most of the time goes on the work itself, which takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers. Visits to a village like Dummer are booked in advance, at a time that suits whoever runs the site.

  1. We trace the duct and find every way in.
  2. We take grease readings along the route.
  3. Out of hours, the area is protected and the access panels opened.
  4. Heavy deposits come out by hand, then each section is degreased.
  5. Panels are closed, readings and photos repeated, and unreachable sections recorded.

Before we arrive

  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Tell us where we can park and unload

Getting a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Advice

Grease, kitchens and Dummer

The FSA’s data shows about 4 pubs, bars and clubs registered within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Dummer. Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. Kitchens in Dummer get their food hygiene inspections from Basingstoke and Deane council. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service covers Dummer. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.

Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of All Saints or anywhere around Dummer, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Park Prewett Hospital about 5 miles north, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

Dummer is about 4 miles south-west of Basingstoke, in Hampshire. Your questions about ductwork cleaning in Dummer

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Dummer?

That is Basingstoke and Deane council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Dummer. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

Do you cover smaller places like Dummer?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. A survey first, from pictures or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

What do you do to protect the area?

Protection goes down first: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.

What’s involved in cleaning extract ducts?

We get into the duct through its access panels. Heavy grease is scraped out by hand, then the surfaces are degreased with a method that suits the deposit, such as degreasers, hot water or steam.

How long does it take to clean extract ducts?

A short duct can be cleaned in a few hours, while long ducts and tall risers can need more than one visit. We plan the work around your kitchen.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes, 24/7. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and the emergency line covers the rest.

What happens if there are not enough access panels?

Any section we cannot reach is recorded on the report, as TR19 expects. We can fit new access panels so they’re cleaned next time.

What if parts of the system can’t be reached?

We record them on the report, with a note of where it is, and we tell you what would make it reachable, such as extra access panels in ductwork.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

How the job changes from site to site

Horizontal duct runs

Grease settles on the floor of a flat duct run. We scrape out the heavy layer first, then the walls and roof are cleaned too.

Vertical risers

Cleaning a riser needs access along its height. Any part that can’t be safely reached is recorded.

Why act early in Dummer

Grease narrows the duct and slows the air. Less air moves, so heat and smoke stay in the kitchen while the fan strains, and grease may start to leak from joints. A planned visit to Dummer is easier to arrange than an emergency callout.

What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why every job is surveyed first, and the price is agreed before any work starts.

Fixed quotes for ductwork cleaning in Dummer

A fixed price needs a few facts first. We check:

  • Parking and loading at the site
  • The size of the system
  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing

We don’t list prices on the website, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we will talk you through it.

Helping us quote

What to send for a quote:

  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • The postcode and the type of business
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use

We do not publish a price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, and then send you a fixed quote. To start, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Dummer

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Every visit ends with a dated report and photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.
