Ductwork cleaning across Crofton

Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Crofton

Duct Doctor has cleaned kitchen extract ductwork since 2009, working across London and the South East. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and our certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. We are often asked to deal with gaps where access panels were never fitted and grease leaking from duct joints, across bends and junctions, access panels and multi-storey ducts.

In a London area like Crofton, a kitchen extract often passes through shared space on its way out: a riser, a service void, the floors above. A duct fire there can reach parts of the building far from the range, so a regular TR19® clean protects everyone in it.

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. That is why every job is written up in a report with pictures, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

What affects the cost of ductwork cleaning

Every site gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • The times the site is available
  • Where the site is and how we reach it

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before we start.

Helping us quote

We can often survey from pictures. The most useful are:

  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Wide photos of the system and the area around it
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it

Quotes are quick. Send a few details and pictures, and we normally reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

Common questions in Crofton

Can a school canteen extract in Crofton be done out of term time?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. With about 10 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Crofton, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with your term dates and we’ll plan around them.

What do you need to know about parking in Crofton?

London parking can be tight, so details of loading bays and permits help. Working overnight, as we often do in London, usually makes it simpler.

Where does the waste go?

It’s contained and taken away. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on, so it doesn’t spread.

Is Crofton in your area?

Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, and that includes Crofton.

Can you price the work without visiting?

Often, yes. With good pictures, the site type and your last report, we can price many jobs. Where we cannot see enough, we arrange a survey.

How much notice should we give?

The more notice, the better, especially for out-of-hours work. We typically quote within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.

Will the duct clean disrupt the kitchen?

We plan the clean when you’re not cooking. Overnight and weekend work is common, so no service is lost.

Will I get a report after the ducts are cleaned?

Readings, pictures and, for a full clean, a TR19 certificate. It also gives a recommended next clean date.

Why act early in Crofton

A fire in a greasy duct is hard to reach and hard to stop. It can travel through the ductwork to other parts of the building, so cleaning the duct is as important as cleaning the hood. In a London building, a problem in a duct, damper or fan rarely stays in one unit.

No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

Why book with us

  • Photo reports with every job
  • Fixed quotes from a survey or pictures
  • One contact for all your sites in London and the South East
  • We diagnose before we treat

What staff can safely do

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. That is our job.

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.

When it’s something else

We’d rather tell you now than book work that will not help, so these are the things it won’t cover:

  • Ductwork that was poorly designed
  • A worn-out fan that needs replacing
  • Ductwork that’s corroded, split or holed (that needs a ductwork contractor)

If you are not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Bends and junctions
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Attenuators
  • Access panels
  • Vertical risers

What we are called out for in Crofton

Grease settles fastest where the air slows down. Long horizontal runs, bends, changes in size and the foot of a riser all collect more, and those are the points we pay most attention to.

Look out for these warning signs:

  • A duct nobody has opened in years
  • Smells of old cooking grease from the ductwork
  • Years of grease along the duct floor
  • Readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Crofton Infant School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

  • When they can work, and whether that’s outside your opening hours
  • What records you’ll receive afterwards

Our hiring checklist

How the job changes from site to site

Vertical risers

A riser takes the duct up through one or more floors. Grease runs down the walls and gathers at the base, which is one of the points we test.

Horizontal duct runs

Long horizontal runs need access panels at regular intervals. Where the gaps between panels are too long, we record what couldn’t be reached and can fit extra panels.

What we do, step by step

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before any work starts, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct. Night and weekend working is normal for us in London, and a site in Crofton is no exception.

  1. We start by working out how the duct runs and where it can be opened.
  2. Grease readings are taken at set points along the duct.
  3. Access panels are opened and heavy deposits scraped out by hand.
  4. The duct is degreased with the method that suits the grease, from degreasers to hot water or steam.
  5. We test again, take photos and note any part that couldn’t be reached.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Find the previous report, if there is one

Ask for a quote

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
