Ductwork cleaning near Connaught Village

How the job changes from site to site

Bends and transitions

The join where the canopy meets the duct is a common hotspot. We reach it from the plenum side where possible.

Vertical risers

Risers carry the extract up through the building to the roof. Grease runs down the walls and gathers at the base, which is one of the points we test.

Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Connaught Village

Duct Doctor has cleaned kitchen extract ductwork since 2009, working across London and the South East. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, our duct cleaning is done to BESA TR19® Grease, with each certificate issued through the BESCA portal. If you’re dealing with grease seeping out of the duct seams and a grease test showing the duct is overdue, we can help.

Across London, many commercial kitchens are squeezed into basements and narrow back-of-house spaces, and the duct may run up through several floors before it discharges at the roof. In Connaught Village, as elsewhere in the capital, a long duct run means more access points to open and more grease to remove.

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. That is why every job is written up in a report with photos, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

What affects the quote in Connaught Village

Sites vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • The times the site is available
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • How easy every part is to reach

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and the price is agreed before any work starts.

Helping us quote

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Useful things to send:

  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Any previous report or certificate
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels

To help us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, pictures of the system and any previous report or certificate. Once you have those, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

Honest limits

We will not sell you work that does not address the problem, so these are the things it will not cover:

  • Parts of the duct with no way in
  • A worn-out fan that needs replacing
  • Faulty fire dampers

If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will say what we think.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Bends and junctions
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Access panels
  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Attenuators
  • Vertical risers

What your team can do, and what needs us

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

Questions from Connaught Village

Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Connaught Village during the holidays?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. With about 78 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Connaught Village, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Send us your term dates when you call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, and we will fit the work in.

Can you work in Connaught Village outside opening hours?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. The site is handed back ready to open. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

How long does it take to clean extract ducts?

It takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers. The survey tells us how long your duct needs.

How do you clean inside the ductwork?

Each section is cleaned through its own panel. Heavy grease comes out by hand, and what’s left is degreased, with readings taken before and after.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, to suit the system and how it’s used.

How do you protect the area?

Protection goes down first: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.

Can extra access doors be added to the duct?

Yes, as part of our fits and repairs work. We place them where they help most, and we will recommend where.

Which sectors do you work in?

Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a single café to a large school. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.

Why deal with it now?

TR19® is not law, but the duty to manage fire risk is. The Fire Safety Order 2005 makes the responsible person assess and reduce fire risk, including the grease inside the extract ductwork. It’s better booked as a planned job in Connaught Village than handled as an emergency.

A single site or a whole portfolio, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before work begins.

What we do, step by step

We’re used to working while the site is closed. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points. Getting kit into a London building takes planning, so let us know where we can load and park in Connaught Village.

  1. We start by working out how the duct runs and where it can be opened.
  2. Set points along the runs are tested for grease.
  3. Through the access panels, thick grease is removed by hand first.
  4. The duct is degreased with the method that suits the grease, from degreasers to hot water or steam.
  5. Readings and pictures are repeated and any section we couldn’t reach is recorded.

Before we arrive

  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need

Ask for a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Aftercare tips

Simple habits between visits make a real difference. We recommend:

  • Book the next clean before the recommended date
  • Make sure filters are seated properly
  • Flag drips from the duct right away
  • Keep access panels clear of stored items

Any section of duct we couldn’t reach is listed on the report, with the reason. We can fit access panels so those sections are cleaned next time.

Book the next duct clean before the date passes. A change in cooking hours may change the interval under BESA guidance, and grease thickness testing will show it.
