Ductwork cleaning in Bursledon
Duct Doctor has cleaned kitchen extract ductwork since 2009, working across London and the South East. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and our certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. The work covers vertical risers, multi-storey ducts and access panels, and the jobs we see most are proof of duct cleaning for the insurer and a grease test showing the duct is overdue.
In a smaller place like Bursledon, the kitchens with extract systems are more likely to be a pub, a café, a takeaway or a school or care home kitchen than a big restaurant. Quieter kitchens still collect grease in the duct, just more slowly, so cleaning is planned around how much it cooks and what the readings show.
We have been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

What affects the quote in Bursledon
There’s no set price list, because sites vary so much. The quote depends on:
- How many systems or sites are involved
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
- Site rules, permits and inductions
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before any work starts.
Asking for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. Just send:
- Wide photos of the system and the area around it
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- The site address and the type of premises
Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before work begins.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We’re happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.
We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we will come back with a fixed quote.

Bursledon: your questions answered
Can sea air affect ductwork cleaning in Bursledon?
It can. Salt air reaches Bursledon, which is within about 2 miles of the coast, and it speeds up rust. Corroded fixings and housings are noted on the report so they can be dealt with.
Which fire authority looks after Bursledon?
It’s Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Bursledon. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.
What accreditations do you have?
We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.
How is kitchen extract ductwork cleaned?
After a survey and grease readings, the duct is opened up through its access panels. Each run and riser is scraped and degreased, then the readings are repeated.
How much does ductwork cleaning cost?
Every site is different, so each gets its own fixed quote. To get one, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with the site type, opening hours and a few photos.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes, always. We diagnose before we treat: the survey tells us what the system needs and how to reach it, and the quote is based on that.
Do you offer emergency callouts?
Yes. There’s a 24/7 emergency line, for problems that cannot wait. Call us any time and explain what’s happened.
Will I get a report after the ducts are cleaned?
You get a photo report with before and after photos, plus a TR19 certificate when the whole system is cleaned. File them with the fire risk assessment.
How the visit works
At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and the same goes into the written report. All told, the work takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct. Your opening hours decide when we come to Bursledon, not ours.
- We start by working out how the duct runs and where it can be opened.
- Grease readings are taken at set points along the duct.
- Through the access panels, thick grease is removed by hand first.
- Next the ducts and risers are degreased, using whatever suits the deposit.
- Post-clean readings and pictures go into the report, with any unreachable section listed.
How to prepare
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system

Related advice
Leave it or put it right?
Under BESA guidance, the mean grease level should stay at or below 200 microns between cleans. Anywhere that reaches 500 microns or more needs immediate spot cleaning. Putting off the clean only pushes readings higher. You choose the date of a planned visit, and a breakdown never asks.
We do not list prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email, and we’ll talk you through it.

What staff can safely do
Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
Honest limits
Not every problem is solved by ductwork cleaning, and we’ll tell you before any work starts. It does not solve:
- Faulty fire dampers
- A failed fan motor at the end of the duct (a fan repair job)
- Duct sealed behind fixed ceilings or walls
If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will say what we think before booking.
Parts of the system we cover
- Attenuators
- Multi-storey ducts
- Vertical risers
- Access panels
- Bends and junctions
- Horizontal duct runs
Part by part
Horizontal duct runs
Horizontal runs carry the extract along ceilings and through voids. Grease drops out of the slowing air along them, and we clean them section by section through access panels.
Access panels
Every section of duct is cleaned through an access panel. Without them, parts of the duct cannot be reached and the report has to say so.
What ductwork cleaning looks like in Bursledon
Bursledon lies within about 2 miles of the sea. Metal on the roof weathers faster close to the coast, and the extract fan and cowl are no exception. The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 26 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 10 takeaways within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Bursledon. Behind every canopy among them is a run of ductwork that collects grease out of sight. Environmental health officers from Eastleigh council inspect food businesses in Bursledon. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.
Where a hall near St Paul’s Church, or anywhere in Bursledon, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does. School kitchens, at schools like Bursledon Church of England Infant School for example, are typically cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Coldeast (about 1.8 miles south-east), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.
