Need ductwork cleaning in Boughton Green?

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Boughton Green

Many ducts were installed with too few access doors. Where a section cannot be reached, TR19 expects it to be recorded on the report, and we can fit new access panels so it’s cleaned next time. An honest report beats a guess. Typical jobs include gaps where access panels were never fitted and grease pooling at the foot of the riser, on bends and junctions, vertical risers and access panels.

In a village or hamlet like Boughton Green, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are usually a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.

Boughton Green questions

Which fire service covers Boughton Green?

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Boughton Green. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Boughton Green during the holidays?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. With about 15 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Boughton Green, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites as one programme. Each site gets its own report and pictures.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. We run scheduled maintenance contracts, set at the interval the system needs. Each report recommends when the next visit should be.

Is Boughton Green in your area?

Yes. We work in Boughton Green and the rest of Kent, as part of our work across South East England and London. To book, ring 0345 646 2711 or email us.

What happens if you cannot reach some of it?

They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. You’ll know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work and have been trading since 2009.

Will the duct clean disrupt the kitchen?

Only while we’re working, and we work around you. Most kitchens book overnight or weekend cleans, so no service is lost.

Keeping the system healthy

Here’s the after-treatment advice, short and simple:

  • Leave a way through to the access panels
  • Store the certificate with the fire risk assessment
  • Ask for a grease thickness test if the kitchen gets busier
  • Keep the fan on while anything is cooking

The report names every part of the duct that couldn’t be reached and why. We can fit access panels so those sections are cleaned next time.

Watch for warning signs between cleans: drips from the ductwork, stale smells or a noisy fan. A grease thickness test can confirm whether a spot clean is needed.

What happens if it’s left?

A fire in a greasy duct is hard to reach and hard to stop. The duct can carry it to rooms, floors or roof spaces well away from the kitchen, which is why the duct matters as much as the canopy. Equipment tucked in a roof space or outbuilding near Boughton Green rarely gets looked at unless someone books it.

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before we start.

What ductwork cleaning cannot fix

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Faulty fire dampers
  • A failed fan motor at the end of the duct (a fan repair job)
  • Duct sealed behind fixed ceilings or walls

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Where we work

  • Vertical risers
  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Attenuators
  • Bends and junctions
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Access panels

What we do, step by step

The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. It takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct, and we clear up before we go. Visits to a village like Boughton Green are booked in advance, at a time that suits whoever runs the site.

  1. We start by working out how the duct runs and where it can be opened.
  2. We measure grease thickness at set points before cleaning.
  3. Through the access panels, thick grease is removed by hand first.
  4. The duct is degreased with the method that suits the grease, from degreasers to hot water or steam.
  5. We test again, take photos and note any part that couldn’t be reached.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Find the previous report, if there is one

Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Advice

Different parts, different methods

Access panels

Every section of duct is cleaned through an access panel. Without them, parts of the duct cannot be reached, and TR19 expects them to be recorded.

Vertical risers

A riser takes the duct up through one or more floors. Grease runs down the walls and gathers at the base, which is one of the points we test.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We can quote either party and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.
