Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit produces a dated report with photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We work across London and the South East, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.

Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Baldock

We treat ductwork like a doctor treats arteries: diagnose where grease has built up, clear it and confirm the result. Readings taken before and after show the difference, alongside before and after pictures. If you have gaps where access panels were never fitted and grease pooling at the foot of the riser, we can put it right.

Kitchens around a place like Baldock are often in older buildings or single-storey extensions, where the duct may cross a roof void or climb an outside wall. Long horizontal runs like that hold grease and need access panels to reach.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

Common questions in Baldock

Is Baldock within the area you cover?

Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Baldock is covered. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.

Can school kitchens in Baldock be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. Around Baldock, the Food Standards Agency lists about 6 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Just ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with your term dates and we will plan around them.

How much notice do you need?

Book as early as you can for planned work, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Scheduled maintenance plans are part of what we do, with visits at the interval your system needs. Each report recommends when the next visit should be.

How do you protect the area?

Protection goes down first: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.

Can you price the work without visiting?

Yes, if we can see what we need. If not, a site survey comes first, and the quote follows that.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

What is TR19?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.

What we do, step by step

We turn up at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before work begins, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct. Everything the job in Baldock needs is worked out beforehand, from the survey.

  1. First the duct route is traced and every access point noted.
  2. Grease readings are taken at set points along the duct.
  3. Access panels are opened and heavy deposits scraped out by hand.
  4. The duct is degreased with the method that suits the grease, from degreasers to hot water or steam.
  5. We test again, take pictures and note any part that couldn’t be reached.

How to prepare

  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need

Honest limits

It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:

  • Duct sealed behind fixed ceilings or walls
  • Fire dampers that do not close (they need testing and remedials)
  • An extract fan that has stopped working

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Bends and junctions
  • Access panels
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Vertical risers
  • Attenuators
  • Multi-storey ducts

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.

Leave it or put it right?

A partly blocked duct slows the airflow. The fan works harder, the kitchen gets hotter and smoke lingers at the canopy and grease can drip from duct joints. It’s easy to lose track of when the work was last done on a quieter site.

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Call for a fixed quote and we will go through it with you.

Between visits

How long the results last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Store the certificate with the fire risk assessment
  • Make sure filters are seated properly
  • Leave a way through to the access panels
  • Run the extract fan throughout service

Grease readings are taken again at the same set points, giving you before and after readings. Before and after pictures sit next to the numbers.

Have access panels fitted where sections can’t be reached. It does not stop grease forming, but it stops it building unseen.

Ductwork cleaning in Baldock: the local picture

The FSA’s data shows about 12 pubs and bars registered in Baldock and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Baldock sits within the area of Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. Food hygiene inspections in Baldock are the job of North Hertfordshire council’s environmental health team. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.

If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Hartsfield Junior Mixed and Infant School or anywhere near Baldock, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Fairfield Hospital is the nearest hospital to Baldock, about 2.8 miles west. A kitchen near Baldock station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval.

What affects the quote in Baldock

The diagnosis comes before the price. We look at:

  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • The condition of the system
  • Any permits to work or inductions

We don’t list prices on the website, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, and we’ll explain what it covers.

Helping us quote

What to send for a quote:

  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room

The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.
