Well canopy cleaning
We cover Well for canopy cleaning. Fixed quotes, work around your opening hours and photo reports on every job.
- Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
- Overflowing grease troughs and gutters
- Greasy streaks across the canopy
Different parts, different methods
School and staff canteen kitchens
Canteen staff see the canopy, not the duct behind it. The canopy and plenum are both cleaned, so what’s out of sight is dealt with too.
Wall canopies
Wall canopies sit against a wall over a cooking line. The joint between canopy and wall is a common grease trap, and we clean that join along with the inside of the hood.
How we handle canopy cleaning in Well
We clean canopies in Well when the kitchen is not cooking: after service, overnight or at the weekend. The equipment underneath is switched off, left to cool and sheeted, and the kitchen is left ready for the next service. The work covers wall canopies, grease gutters and baffle filters, and common reasons people get in touch are a canopy that no longer draws the smoke away and an EHO comment about the canopy.
In a small place like Well, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.
It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Well
Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works, and we’ll send a fixed quote.
Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit produces a dated report with photos, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.
How we price canopy cleaning
The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- The number of sites or systems
- Site rules, permits and inductions
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before any work starts.
Helping us quote
You do not need the technical terms. Just send:
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- The site address and the type of premises
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
Quotes are quick. Send a few details and pictures, and we usually reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.
What we do, step by step
We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that’s an evening, overnight or a weekend. When the team arrives, the work area is protected and the relevant equipment is switched off to cool, and the work takes a few hours for most canopies. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Well, let us know and we’ll plan around it.
- We start by checking the canopy, filters and plenum.
- Equipment below is switched off and left to cool, then sheeted.
- Filters come out and the plenum behind them is scraped and degreased.
- The canopy is cleaned inside and out, including troughs and seams.
- We refit the filters, clear up and photograph the finished canopy.
Getting ready for the visit
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Agree a time when the area can be out of use
Getting a quote
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

What canopy cleaning cannot fix
Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:
- A fan that cannot pull enough air because it’s worn out
- Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)
- A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that is a design question)
If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will say what we think before you book.

Well questions
Can you come to Well after we close?
Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. The work in Well can fit around your hours. When you call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line, mention when the site is quiet.
Can you get to a site in Well?
Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Well included. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.
How much does canopy cleaning cost in Well?
There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: the size of the system, its condition, access and when we can work. You get a fixed price before work begins.
Is TR19 a legal requirement?
No. TR19® is BESA’s specification, not legislation. The law is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which makes the responsible person assess and reduce fire risk, and cleaning to TR19® is the recognised way to show grease is under control.
How do you protect the area?
Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before any work starts, and anything we remove is contained. At the end, the area is cleaned down.
Who is responsible for fire safety on the premises?
That depends on who controls the premises. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, it’s the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, facilities manager or managing agent.
What should I send you?
Where the site is, what it is and when it’s open, plus photos of the system and your last certificate or report if you have one.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. We’re fully insured, and we can share the details when you need them.
Looking after it afterwards
Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it helps at the next visit:
- Check all filters are fitted before service
- Leave the extract running until cooking stops
- Do not scrape the canopy with metal tools
- Make sure filters sit tight in the housing
A full system clean comes with a TR19 certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Where only the canopy is done, the report says so clearly.
The best thing a kitchen can do for its canopy is keep the filters clean. Wash or exchange them regularly, and never cook with one missing. The plenum behind them stays cleaner.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.
Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.
Kitchen extracts in Well
We cover Well, about 40 miles from central London, as part of our work across London and the South East. Evening, overnight and weekend visits are all possible. In Well, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Hart council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Lord Wandsworth College Chapel or elsewhere in Well, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Well (Farnham Castle is about 4.8 miles east), fitting access panels needs care. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Fleet Community Hospital is the nearest hospital to Well, about 5.8 miles north-east.
