Canopy cleaning in Fleet, done properly

We’ve been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. The work covers canopy light fittings, wall canopies and baffle filters, and people most often call us about a hood coated in old grease and grease channels that no longer drain.

Most kitchens in a town like Fleet can’t close for a day, so the work is done after service, overnight or on a closed day. The kitchen is handed back clean and ready to cook.

Good records are part of the job. You get a written report with pictures after each visit, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

Part by part

Pub and hotel kitchens

In pubs and hotels, the kitchen may be busy for much of the day. That’s a lot of grease on the canopy, so it may need cleaning between full TR19 cleans.

Wall canopies

Wall canopies sit against a wall over a cooking line. Grease often collects where the canopy meets the wall, so we clean along it as well as the inner skin.

When it’s something else

We’d rather tell you now than book work that will not help, so here are the limits:

  • Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
  • A dirty extract fan further along the system
  • A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that’s a design question)

If you are not sure, just call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will give you a straight answer.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Wall canopies
  • Baffle filters
  • Plenum chambers
  • Grease gutters
  • Island canopies
  • Canopy light fittings

Questions from Fleet

Do you work at weekends in Fleet?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. The work in Fleet can fit around your hours. Just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with your opening times and we’ll plan around them.

Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Fleet?

Food hygiene inspections in Fleet are carried out by Hart council. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.

Do we need to close while you work?

Not typically. Out-of-hours visits keep the disruption down. Bigger sites can be done in stages so parts stay in use.

Who is responsible for fire safety on the premises?

In the words of the Fire Safety Order 2005, it’s the responsible person. That is generally the employer or the person in control of the premises, and where several people have control, each can have duties. If you’re not sure, check your lease and fire risk assessment.

How long will it take to clean the canopy?

It takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. We will confirm how long when we quote.

What happens to the waste?

Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. We do not leave it behind.

Do you provide pictures of the cleaned canopy?

A photo report shows the canopy and plenum before and after. Full system cleans also come with a TR19 certificate.

What is TR19?

A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark.

What staff can safely do

When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We will take a look and send you a fixed quote.

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.

Fixed quotes for canopy cleaning in Fleet

We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:

  • The size of the system
  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • Where the site is and how we reach it

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before work begins.

What we need to know

You don’t need the technical terms. Just send:

  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room

Quotes are quick. Call or email with a few details and you will typically have a fixed price within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

Aftercare tips

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Never run the range with a filter out
  • Clean the hood’s outer surfaces daily
  • Clean the baffle filters often
  • Avoid harsh scourers that scratch the canopy

The kitchen is handed back clean, with the sheeting gone and the waste removed. Every filter is refitted and checked ready for the next service.

The best thing a kitchen can do for its canopy is keep the filters clean. Keep them on a regular cleaning or exchange cycle, and make sure they’re all in place before cooking. The plenum behind them stays cleaner.

How it works

Our technicians bring everything the work needs, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. On site, the work takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. Sites in a town like Fleet rarely need to lose trading hours, as the work fits around them.

  1. We start by checking the canopy and what’s behind its filters.
  2. Equipment is turned off and cooled, and the area under the canopy is protected.
  3. Heavy deposits come off by hand, then the surfaces are degreased.
  4. Plenum, housing, troughs and canopy are all cleaned and checked.
  5. The canopy is signed off with before and after pictures and a next clean date.

How to prepare

  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
