About our canopy cleaning in Tovil

The canopy is where the extract system breathes in. If it’s coated in grease, everything downstream gets more of it. Our diagnosis starts there, and the cure is a thorough clean of the hood, the plenum and the filter housing. If you have overflowing grease troughs and gutters and condensation and grease dripping together, we can put it right.

For a smaller kitchen near Tovil, a TR19® clean is the same job as anywhere: canopy, filters, plenum, duct, fan and discharge. The visit is booked around your opening hours, and the journey is planned ahead.

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. That is why every job is written up in a report with pictures, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Fixed quotes for canopy cleaning in Tovil

A fixed price needs a few facts first. We look at:

  • The number of sites or systems
  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • The size of the system
  • Where the site is and how we reach it

What you pay depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before work begins, so there are no surprises.

Helping us quote

What to send for a quote:

  • Any previous report or certificate
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your photos and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before any work starts.

Tovil kitchens: local notes

There are about 161 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 58 takeaways within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Tovil, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Where they cook under a hood, the plenum behind the filters is where grease hides. Kitchens in Tovil get their food hygiene inspections from Maidstone council. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. Tovil sits within the area of Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

For schools such as Archbishop Courtenay Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. If you cook for passing trade around Maidstone West station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near St Michael and All Angels Church, or anywhere in Tovil, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

Tovil is about 1 mile west of Maidstone, in Kent. Tovil gets the same approach as every site we work on: diagnosis first, a fixed price, out-of-hours working where needed and a written report with pictures. Tovil is one of 922 places in Kent we cover for canopy cleaning.

What canopy cleaning cannot fix

We’d rather tell you now than book work that will not help, so here are the limits:

  • A hood that doesn’t cover the cooking line
  • A fan that cannot pull enough air because it’s worn out
  • Filters that no longer seal in the housing

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Grease gutters
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Baffle filters
  • Island canopies
  • Wall canopies
  • Plenum chambers

Aftercare tips

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Check all filters are fitted before service
  • Wash or exchange the filters on a regular cycle
  • Run the extract the whole time you are cooking
  • Check filters are not leaving gaps

A before and after photo report follows the clean. It notes what was cleaned and anything we couldn’t reach, so the record is honest and complete.

Clean filters are the canopy’s first defence. Wash or exchange them regularly, and make sure they’re all in place before cooking. Less grease gets into the plenum as a result.

Why act early in Tovil

Grease on the canopy is sitting just above the heat source. A flare-up can catch it and be drawn into the plenum and duct, where a fire is much harder to stop. A clean canopy takes that fuel away. A planned visit to Tovil fits your hours; an emergency doesn’t.

How it works

Everything the job needs comes with us, including protection sheets, the right tools and access kit. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. The visit takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. For a place like Tovil, we load the van from the survey notes so the work can be done in one visit where possible.

  1. The canopy is checked from pictures or on a visit.
  2. Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
  3. We lift out the filters and scrape the plenum and housing.
  4. Inside and out, the hood and its troughs are cleaned.
  5. Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.

Preparing for the visit

  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down

How to get a quote

Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Different parts, different methods

Island canopies

Island canopies often have filters on two sides. We work round the canopy, cleaning each filter bank and plenum.

Wall canopies

The back of a wall canopy is hard to reach and easy to miss. With the filters out we can get to it and degrease it properly.

Tovil: your questions answered

Can you work in Tovil outside opening hours?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. It means the site in Tovil keeps running as normal. When you call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, mention when the site is quiet.

Do you work in villages like Tovil?

Yes. Tovil is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

How much of the canopy do you clean?

Everything from the outer face to the plenum behind the filters. Troughs, gutters and filter housings are cleaned too.

What does canopy cleaning cost?

We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how big it is, what state it’s in, how we reach it and the working hours. You get a fixed price before work begins.

Are the filters cleaned too?

They’re taken out, cleaned and refitted. Each filter is checked for fit as it goes back, because gaps let grease through.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes. There’s a 24/7 emergency line for anything that can’t wait until a planned visit. Ring any time and tell us what’s happened.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. Photos often do the job, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.

Are you insured?

Yes. We’re fully insured, and we can share the details when you need them.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.
