Need canopy cleaning in Smarden?

Different parts, different methods

Island canopies

Island canopies hang over cooking in the middle of the kitchen, so every face can collect grease. We clean all of them, inside and out.

Wall canopies

The back of a wall canopy is hard to reach and easy to miss. With the filters out we can get to it and degrease it properly.

Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Smarden

Every TR19® Grease clean includes the canopy, but some sites need the canopy done between full cleans. Where that is the case, we will be clear that the ducts and fan aren’t included, so your records stay accurate. Common call-outs are for greasy streaks across the canopy and a filter housing caked in grease, on plenum chambers, baffle filters and canopy light fittings.

For a kitchen in or near Smarden, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

The paperwork matters as much as the work. Each visit is written up with photos, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. File it in your maintenance log so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

Keeping the system healthy

How long the results last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Keep grease cups and drawers emptied
  • Keep every filter in place while cooking
  • Make sure filters sit tight in the housing
  • Give the canopy a wipe after service

We point out anything we noticed while the canopy was apart: damaged filters, gaps around the housing or troughs that need emptying more often. We keep it to what matters.

Empty the grease troughs and cups before they fill. Most canopy drips start with a full trough, so make emptying them part of the closing routine.

What a clean will not put right

Not every problem is solved by canopy cleaning, and we’ll tell you before we start. It will not put right:

  • Electrical faults in the canopy
  • A hood that doesn’t cover the cooking line
  • Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair

If you’re not sure, just call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Multi-site and managed buildings

We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we will come back with a fixed quote.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.

What we do, step by step

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before any work starts, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. A few photos of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like Smarden.

  1. We look at the canopy first, from pictures or on a visit.
  2. Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
  3. With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned back.
  4. The canopy is cleaned inside and out, including troughs and seams.
  5. Filters go back, the area is cleaned down and pictures are taken.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Related advice

Leave it or put it right?

Fresh grease comes off far more easily than old. Heat from the range bakes canopy grease into a hard, dark layer, which makes a later clean slower and harder. It’s simpler to plan the work at Smarden now than to arrange it in a hurry later.

What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why we survey first, from photos or on site, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.

Common questions in Smarden

Can the work in Smarden be done at night or at weekends?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. That way a site in Smarden doesn’t have to lose a day’s trading. Just call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with your opening times and we’ll plan around them.

Which fire service covers Smarden?

Smarden is in the area of Kent Fire and Rescue Service. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.

What accreditations do you have?

We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

How long is a canopy clean?

It takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. We will confirm how long when we quote.

What happens if you can’t reach some of it?

They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.

What is TR19?

TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.

How much notice should we give?

The more notice, the better, especially for out-of-hours work. We typically quote within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We’re fully insured, and the details are available on request.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Grease, kitchens and Smarden

According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 3 pubs, bars and clubs within about 1.5 miles of central Smarden. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. The fire and rescue service for Smarden is Kent Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. Food hygiene inspections in Smarden are the job of Ashford council’s environmental health team. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.

Bursars and site managers at schools such as Smarden Primary School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Michael or elsewhere in Smarden, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Smarden is Benenden Hospital, about 5.3 miles south-west.
