Canopy cleaning in Singlewell or Ifield, done properly

A greasy canopy tells an inspector a lot before they’ve opened anything. Under the surface, the plenum behind the filters is normally in a worse state. We clean both, so the canopy is clean where it shows and where it does not. We’re often asked to deal with wet, greasy drips from the hood and a greasy hood noticed by an inspector, on plenum chambers, wall canopies and baffle filters.

Somewhere as small as Singlewell or Ifield, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease, whatever the size of the place.

A written report with pictures follows every visit, so you have a record of what was done and when. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

How the visit works

Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and the same goes into the written report. The visit takes a few hours for most canopies. In a small place like Singlewell or Ifield, the journey is planned ahead and the visit arranged around the site’s hours.

  1. First the canopy is surveyed, by pictures or in person.
  2. Equipment below is switched off and left to cool, then sheeted.
  3. Filters come out and the plenum behind them is scraped and degreased.
  4. We degrease the canopy shell, its seams and the grease troughs.
  5. Clean filters are refitted and before and after pictures go into your report.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system

Ask for a quote

Quotes are quick. Send a few details and photos, and we normally reply with a fixed quote within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

Advice

What a clean will not put right

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that is a design question)
  • Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)
  • Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)

If you are not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit produces a dated report with photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

Singlewell or Ifield: your questions answered

Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Singlewell or Ifield in the summer holidays?

Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. Food Standards Agency records list about 20 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Singlewell or Ifield. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.

Does the sea air around Singlewell or Ifield make a difference to canopy cleaning?

It can. Salt air reaches Singlewell or Ifield, which is within about 3 miles of the coast, and it speeds up rust. We look at fans, cowls and fixings for rust as well as grease.

What about areas you cannot get to?

We never leave them off the paperwork. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

Is Singlewell or Ifield in your area?

Yes. Our area takes in London and the counties of South East England, and that includes Singlewell or Ifield.

Who is responsible for fire safety on the premises?

The Fire Safety Order 2005 calls them the responsible person: normally the employer or whoever controls the premises. Landlords, facilities managers and managing agents can also hold responsibility.

Which canopies and hoods do you clean?

We clean canopies in commercial kitchens of every kind. Whatever is cooked under it, the canopy is cleaned the same thorough way, with the equipment off and cool.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and we’ll quote them together.

Will we have to shut during the visit?

Not usually. The area we are working in has to be out of use while we’re there, so the visit goes in a quiet slot.

Why act early in Singlewell or Ifield

In Singlewell or Ifield, as elsewhere, a greasy canopy is one of the first things an inspector sees. A clean hood is a sign the kitchen is cared for and keeping it that way is easier than catching up. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.

Grease, kitchens and Singlewell or Ifield

At about 3 miles from the coast, Singlewell or Ifield is close enough for sea air to matter. Metal on the roof weathers faster close to the coast, and the extract fan and cowl are no exception. The FSA’s data shows about 9 bars, pubs and nightclubs registered in and around Singlewell or Ifield, up to about a mile and a half out. Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. Fire safety in Singlewell or Ifield falls to Kent Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Margaret, or anywhere in Singlewell or Ifield, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Singlewell Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

How the job changes from site to site

Island canopies

With filters on more than one side, an island canopy has more plenum to clean. Both sides are taken apart and cleaned.

School and staff canteen kitchens

School and canteen kitchens often cook to set hours, which makes a canopy clean easy to schedule. We often clean them in holidays or at weekends.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.

Signs you need canopy cleaning in Singlewell or Ifield

Because the plenum sits behind the filters, it’s easy to forget. Daily cleaning reaches the canopy face but rarely gets further, leaving the plenum and housing to collect grease between professional cleans.

Look out for any of the following:

  • An EHO comment about the canopy
  • Greasy streaks across the canopy
  • Grease filters blocking between washes
  • Grease channels that no longer drain

A hospital like Gravesham Community Hospital, about 2.2 miles north, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.
