About our canopy cleaning in Sindlesham

Duct Doctor has cleaned canopies and hoods since 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. If you are dealing with an EHO comment about the canopy and condensation and grease dripping together, we can help, from island canopies, plenum chambers and baffle filters onwards.

For a kitchen in or near Sindlesham, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

A written report with pictures follows every visit, so there’s a dated record of the work. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Leave it or put it right?

A blocked plenum and clogged filters cut the airflow at the canopy. Smoke and heat hang around the cooking line while the fan strains. Cleaning restores the path the air should take. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we will go through it with you.

What staff can safely do

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That is our job.

How the job changes from site to site

Island canopies

Island canopies often have filters on two sides. We work round the canopy, cleaning each filter bank and plenum.

Pub and hotel kitchens

In pubs and hotels, the kitchen may be busy for much of the day. That is a lot of grease on the canopy, so it may need cleaning between full TR19 cleans.

Common questions in Sindlesham

Which council inspects kitchens in Sindlesham?

Kitchens in Sindlesham are inspected by Wokingham council’s environmental health officers. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.

Will you come out to Sindlesham?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Do we need to close the kitchen for a canopy clean?

Only while we are working, and we work out of hours, so service is not affected. Evenings, overnight and weekends are all possible.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, to suit the system and how it’s used.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes, always. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need, and the quote is based on that.

Do you provide photos of the cleaned canopy?

Before and after photos go into a report, listing what was cleaned. A full TR19 clean adds a certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Do we need to close while you work?

Not typically. Booking the work out of hours means the site can carry on as normal. Larger jobs can be phased over several visits so parts stay in use.

What do you do with what you remove?

It’s contained and taken away. We collect grease, debris and waste water as we go rather than letting it spread.

When it’s something else

We’ll always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what canopy cleaning will not do:

  • A light fitting that does not work
  • A dirty extract fan further along the system
  • Filters that no longer seal in the housing

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Where we work

  • Island canopies
  • Baffle filters
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Grease gutters
  • Wall canopies
  • Plenum chambers

Do you need canopy cleaning in Sindlesham?

However carefully a kitchen in Sindlesham is run, the canopy still collects grease. It’s fuel, sitting directly over the burners, so a flare-up near a greasy hood can quickly become a fire.

Most sites get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • A filter housing caked in grease
  • A canopy that no longer draws the smoke away
  • Overflowing grease troughs and gutters
  • Grease filters blocking between washes

If you run a café or takeaway near Winnersh station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits.

What to look for in a quote

  • If they look at the system before pricing
  • If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate
  • What insurance they carry
  • Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor

Canopy cleaning around Sindlesham

Food Standards Agency data counts about 27 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 7 takeaways and sandwich shops in Sindlesham and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Where they cook under a hood, the plenum behind the filters is where grease hides. Food hygiene inspections in Sindlesham are the job of Wokingham council’s environmental health team. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Sindlesham is covered by Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.

Looking after it afterwards

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. Our tips:

  • Never run the range with a filter out
  • Tell us when the canopy starts to drip
  • Check and empty canopy gutters regularly
  • Clean the baffle filters often

The kitchen is handed back clean, with the sheeting gone and the waste removed. Every filter is refitted and checked, and the kitchen is ready to cook.

Keep the fan running throughout service and for a short while after. Air that keeps moving carries less grease onto the canopy.

What happens on the day

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before work begins, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes a few hours for most canopies. A few photos of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like Sindlesham.

  1. We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
  2. Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. Inside and out, the hood and its troughs are cleaned.
  5. We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
