About our canopy cleaning in Rownhams

If the canopy in Rownhams is dripping, sticky or overdue a clean? Send us a photo of the hood and filters when you call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos, and you will get a fixed price, usually within one working day. If you have greasy streaks across the canopy and condensation running down the canopy, we can help, from baffle filters, canopy light fittings and island canopies onwards.

Kitchens around a place like Rownhams are often in older buildings or single-storey extensions, with the duct running through a roof space or up an outside wall. Flat runs collect grease and need proper access to clean.

The sign-off is always in writing: a written report, dated and illustrated with pictures, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

When something else is needed

We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so these are the things it will not cover:

  • Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor
  • Filters that no longer seal in the housing
  • A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that is a design question)

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll say what we think.

Your questions about canopy cleaning in Rownhams

Will you come out to Rownhams?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Rownhams included. A survey first, from photos or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

Do you clean school canteen extracts around Rownhams out of term?

Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. The FSA’s register shows about 13 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Rownhams. Send us your term dates when you phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us, and we will fit the work in.

Do you clean the grease filters as part of a canopy clean?

Filters are removed so we can clean the plenum and housing, then cleaned and refitted. We also offer a filter exchange service for between cleans.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so sites at different addresses can be planned together as one programme. Each site gets its own report and pictures.

How long is a canopy clean?

Allow an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. We’ll confirm how long when we quote.

Are you insured?

Yes, we’re fully insured. We also hold CHAS and SafeContractor for clients who vet their contractors.

Where does the waste go?

We take it away when we go. During the work, it’s contained to keep the area clean.

What paperwork do I get after a canopy clean?

A photo report shows the canopy and plenum before and after. Full system cleans also come with a TR19 certificate.

For landlords and multi-site operators

We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across Southampton. Larger estates can be phased building by building to keep disruption down.

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

Between visits

Results last longer with the right care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Keep every filter in place while cooking
  • Wipe the canopy down at close every day
  • Don’t scrape the canopy with metal tools
  • Clean the baffle filters often

After the clean you get a photo report showing the canopy, plenum and housing before and after. It notes what was cleaned and anything we couldn’t reach, so the record is honest and complete.

Run the extract for as long as anything is cooking. Air that keeps moving carries less grease onto the canopy.

The process

The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, and the sign-off is a written report with photos. Most of the time goes on the work itself, and that takes a few hours for most canopies. In a smaller place like Rownhams, parking is rarely the issue, but tell us about gates, roof access and opening hours.

  1. We look at the canopy first, from pictures or on a visit.
  2. Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
  3. We remove the grease filters and clean the plenum and filter housing.
  4. Inside and out, the canopy and its grease channels are degreased.
  5. We refit the filters, clear up and photograph the finished canopy.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions

Getting a quote

Quotes are quick. Send a few details and pictures, and we usually reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

Advice

What staff can safely do

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

What canopy cleaning looks like in Rownhams

Rownhams lies within about 3 miles of the sea. Metal on the roof weathers faster close to the coast, and the extract fan and cowl are no exception. Food Standards Agency records list about 33 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 17 takeaways within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Rownhams. Where they cook under a hood, the plenum behind the filters is where grease hides. Fire safety in Rownhams falls to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St John or elsewhere in Rownhams, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Rownhams St John's Church of England Primary School or anywhere near Rownhams, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

Different parts, different methods

School and staff canteen kitchens

In a school or workplace canteen, the canopy is often the only part of the extract staff ever see. The canopy and plenum are both cleaned, so what’s out of sight is dealt with too.

Pub and hotel kitchens

Few pubs and hotels can shut the kitchen for a day. Canopy cleans are done late at night or early in the morning so the kitchen keeps trading.

Do you need canopy cleaning in Rownhams?

The canopy takes the hottest, wettest air in the kitchen. Fat in that air settles on the inside of the hood, in its seams and on the filters before what gets through reaches the plenum.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Filters that clog soon after cleaning
  • Poor capture at the hood
  • A filter housing caked in grease
  • An EHO comment about the canopy

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Princess Anne Hospital (about 1.3 miles south-east), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.
