Canopy cleaning in Plaxtol, done properly
We have been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. If you have grease filters blocking between washes and a plenum thick with grease behind the filters, we can put it right.
For a kitchen in or near Plaxtol, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.
The sign-off is always in writing: a written report, dated and illustrated with photos, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

Between visits
Aftercare is simple, and it makes the next visit easier:
- Keep filters on a set cleaning routine
- Clean the hood’s outer surfaces daily
- Check all filters are fitted before service
- Run the extract the whole time you’re cooking
We clear away the sheeting, waste grease and water before we leave. Every filter is refitted and checked ready for the next service.
Wipe the canopy surfaces at the end of each day. It doesn’t reach the plenum, but it stops the outside building up.
Plaxtol questions
Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Plaxtol?
Food hygiene inspections in Plaxtol are carried out by Tonbridge and Malling council. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.
Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Plaxtol in the summer holidays?
Yes, holiday work suits schools best. Food Standards Agency records list about 2 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Plaxtol. Just call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with your term dates and we’ll plan around them.
Will I get a report after the canopy clean?
You get a photo report with before and after pictures. If the canopy is cleaned as part of a full TR19 clean, a TR19 certificate is issued too.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. We always survey first, either from photos and details you send or on a site visit. A fixed quote follows.
Which accreditations do you hold?
Our accreditations are CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.
How much notice should we give?
The more notice, the better, particularly for night and weekend visits. Quotes typically come back within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.
What causes grease to drip from the hood?
Grease that builds up inside the canopy has to go somewhere. When the gutters fill, it overflows onto the range, often mixed with condensation. A thorough clean stops it.
Does the law say we must follow TR19?
No. TR19® itself isn’t law; it’s a BESA specification. The law is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which makes the responsible person assess and reduce fire risk, and cleaning to TR19® is the recognised way to show grease is under control.
What staff can safely do
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.
Honest limits
In fairness, there are a few things this work won’t fix:
- Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)
- A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that is a design question)
- Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will tell you honestly before you book.
Parts of the system we cover
- Grease gutters
- Plenum chambers
- Canopy light fittings
- Baffle filters
- Island canopies
- Wall canopies
Different parts, different methods
Wall canopies
A wall-mounted canopy runs along the back of the range. The joint between canopy and wall is a common grease trap, and we clean that join along with the inside of the hood.
Grease troughs and gutters
Grease channels around the canopy collect what runs down the inside. We empty and degrease them, so they can do their job again.
Grease, kitchens and Plaxtol
The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 3 pubs, bars and clubs in Plaxtol and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. In Plaxtol, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Tonbridge and Malling council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Kent Fire and Rescue Service covers Plaxtol. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.
If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Sevenoaks Hospital about 5.2 miles north-west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. Historic houses near Plaxtol, such as Old Soar Manor about 0.7 miles north-east, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes. Where a hall near Plaxtol Church, or anywhere in Plaxtol, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

Leave it or put it right?
A greasy canopy is fuel directly above the flame. Flames from the range can ignite it and be pulled further into the system, where a fire is much harder to stop. A clean canopy takes that fuel away. In a place like Plaxtol, ductwork and fans are easy to forget until something goes wrong.
Several systems or sites on one quote can make for a more efficient booking. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we’ll price it together.

The process
We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. On site, it takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Plaxtol before we set off.
- We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
- Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
- We lift out the filters and scrape the plenum and housing.
- The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
- Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.
Getting ready for the visit
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool

Fixed quotes for canopy cleaning in Plaxtol
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We check:
- Travel, parking and unloading
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
- Site rules, permits and inductions
- The number of sites or systems
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re unsure, call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will give you an honest view and a fixed quote.
Helping us quote
What to send for a quote:
- Your last certificate, test record or report
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Send a few details and photos, and we typically reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.
