Your questions about canopy cleaning in Pimlico
Who is the fire and rescue service for Pimlico?
That is Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
Do you work in villages like Pimlico?
Yes. Pimlico is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Are the filters cleaned too?
The filters come out so the plenum behind them can be cleaned, then clean and refit them. Any that are damaged are noted on the report.
What do you do with what you remove?
Waste is contained during the work and removed when we leave, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. None of it is left on site.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so sites at different addresses can be planned together as one programme. Each site gets its own report and pictures.
When do you clean the canopy?
Only while we’re working, and we work out of hours, so service isn’t affected. Evenings, overnight and weekends are all possible.
How much notice do you need?
It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.
How do you protect the area?
We start with protection: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.
How we handle canopy cleaning in Pimlico
Has the canopy started to drip or look neglected? A photo of the canopy and filters is a good start when you call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email, and you’ll get a fixed price, normally within one working day. We’re often asked to deal with a greasy hood noticed by an inspector and grease dripping from the canopy edge, on plenum chambers, baffle filters and wall canopies.
Work in a small place like Pimlico starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. We are also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

What affects the cost of canopy cleaning
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We check:
- Parking and loading at the site
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- The size of the system
- The number of sites or systems
Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.
What to send for a quote
What to send for a quote:
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- A few general shots of the system
Need a price for canopy cleaning? Please phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and tell us about the site. We will explain what we’d do and send a fixed quote before you commit to anything.
Part by part
Pub and hotel kitchens
In a pub or hotel, the canopy is often in view of staff all day, so a dripping hood quickly becomes everyone’s problem. A thorough clean puts that right.
Grease troughs and gutters
Where a trough drains into a grease cup, that’s emptied and cleaned too, and we will show staff where it is.
What happens if it’s left?
Baked-on grease gets harder to shift the longer it stays. Heat from the range bakes canopy grease into a hard, dark layer, which makes a later clean slower and harder. Systems in rural buildings are often out of sight and out of mind.
One small site or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before we start.

Keeping the system healthy
Good habits slow the build-up between visits. Our tips:
- Run the extract the whole time you are cooking
- Keep filters on a set cleaning routine
- Empty the grease troughs before they fill
- Flag any change in how the canopy behaves
The kitchen is handed back clean, with the sheeting gone and the waste removed. Filters are back in place and seated properly ready for the next service.
The best thing a kitchen can do for its canopy is keep the filters clean. Wash or exchange them regularly, and make sure they’re all in place before cooking. The plenum behind them stays cleaner.
What happens on the day
Your trading hours come first. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. When the team arrives, the work area is protected and the relevant equipment is switched off to cool, and the work takes a few hours for most canopies. For a village or hamlet like Pimlico, tell us about narrow lanes, gates and parking when you book.
- First the canopy is surveyed, by pictures or in person.
- Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
- With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned back.
- Inside and out, the canopy and its grease channels are degreased.
- We refit the filters, clear up and photograph the finished canopy.
Getting ready for the visit
- Have your last certificate or report to hand
- Move anything stored near the system
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
Ask for a quote
Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
Advice
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.
For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
Canopy cleaning around Pimlico
There are about 11 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 6 takeaways within about 1.5 miles of central Pimlico, according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Any of those kitchens with a canopy has a hood that needs cleaning inside and out. Kitchens in Pimlico get their food hygiene inspections from Three Rivers council. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service covers Pimlico. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.
Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Leavesden Hospital is the nearest hospital to Pimlico, about 1.9 miles south. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of the Ascension or elsewhere in Pimlico, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. For schools such as Bedmond Academy, kitchen extract cleaning is normally booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

Honest limits
Canopy cleaning cannot fix everything, and we’ll tell you before we start. It does not solve:
- A light fitting that does not work
- A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that is a design question)
- Filters that no longer seal in the housing
If you are not sure, just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.
