Canopy cleaning in Paddock, done properly

Canopy cleans are done out of hours: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Cooking equipment is turned off and cooled, then covered, and the kitchen is left ready for the next service. If you are dealing with a canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection and fat running down the front of the hood, we can put it right, from canopy light fittings, grease gutters and island canopies onwards.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

The paperwork matters as much as the work. Each visit is written up with photos, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. File it in your maintenance log so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

What happens if it’s left?

Leaving the canopy until the next full clean can mean months of build-up. Some kitchens need the canopy cleaning more often than the whole system, and readings or a look behind the filters will show it. Rural sites can’t always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.

The cost depends on how big the system is, the condition it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before work begins, so you know where you stand.

How we price canopy cleaning

The price is fixed before any work begins. It’s based on:

  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • The times the site is available
  • How easy every part is to reach

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Asking for a quote

A few details help us quote accurately. When you get in touch, it helps to send:

  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • A few general shots of the system

If you need canopy cleaning in Paddock, call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us. Let us know the site type and the opening hours, plus pictures or the previous report if they’re to hand. A fixed quote normally follows within one working day.

Questions from Paddock

Which fire authority looks after Paddock?

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Paddock. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

Can you get to a site in Paddock?

Yes. Paddock is within the area we cover across London and the South East. A survey first, from pictures or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Only a few details: where it is, what kind of site, when it’s open and the access. Photos and the last report help too. After that, simply phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

Where does the waste go?

It’s contained and taken away. We collect grease, debris and waste water as we go rather than letting it spread.

Do you clean the grease filters as part of a canopy clean?

Filters are removed so we can clean the plenum and housing, then cleaned and refitted. Between cleans, a filter exchange service can keep them in good order.

Is canopy cleaning enough for TR19?

TR19® Grease is about the whole extract, from canopy to discharge. Cleaning the canopy alone leaves the ducts, risers and fan untouched, and the report will say what was covered.

What is TR19?

It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It covers how systems are inspected, cleaned and checked and expects a risk-based approach.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, to suit the system and how it’s used.

Common problems we fix in Paddock

Steam and condensation make canopy grease harder to deal with. As the canopy cools, condensation forms, carrying grease with it. The result is sticky streaks and drips onto the range.

The symptoms we are asked about most are:

  • Grease filters blocking between washes
  • A filter housing caked in grease
  • Poor capture at the hood
  • Condensation running down the canopy

Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of St Cosmas and St Damian or anywhere around Paddock, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

Questions to ask before booking

  • What’s included in the scope, part by part
  • How VAT is shown on the quote
  • Whether the figure could change on the day
  • What insurance they carry

When it’s something else

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)
  • Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
  • Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)

If you’re not sure, just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:

  • Avoid harsh scourers that scratch the canopy
  • Give the canopy a wipe after service
  • Never run the range with a filter out
  • Check filters aren’t leaving gaps

Keep the photo report with your maintenance log, so it’s ready when an EHO, insurer or fire officer asks. Photos of a clean canopy and plenum make the record easy to follow.

Clean filters are the canopy’s first defence. Keep them on a regular cleaning or exchange cycle, and never cook with one missing. Less grease gets into the plenum as a result.

What staff can safely do

Staff cleaning doesn’t replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Kitchen extracts in Paddock

Look up Paddock on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 5 restaurants, cafés and canteens in Paddock and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Wherever there’s a canopy over the cooking, its hood and plenum collect grease with every service. Kent Fire and Rescue Service covers Paddock. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. In Paddock, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Ashford council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.

For schools such as Challock Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as William Harvey Hospital (about 5.8 miles south-east), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.

How it works

A visit follows the same order every time: sheeting and protection first, isolate whatever needs isolating, carry out the canopy cleaning, tidy up and leave you the report. The visit itself takes a few hours for most canopies. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Paddock before we set off.

  1. We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
  2. Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
  • Clear the space around the work
  • Tell us where we can park and unload

How to get a quote

Here’s what helps us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, a few photos and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us.
