How we handle canopy cleaning in Old Dean

We clean canopies in Old Dean when the kitchen is not cooking: after service, overnight or at the weekend. Cooking equipment is turned off and cooled, then covered so the kitchen is ready when we go. If you have a canopy that no longer draws the smoke away and wet, greasy drips from the hood, we can help.

For a smaller kitchen near Old Dean, a TR19® clean is the same job as anywhere: canopy, filters, plenum, duct, fan and discharge. The visit is booked around your opening hours, and the journey is planned ahead.

The paperwork matters as much as the work. You get a written report with pictures after every visit, covering the work done, any areas we couldn’t access and a recommended next date. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Whether it’s one building or many, the standard is the same: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with pictures.

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements and we will come back with a fixed quote.

What affects the quote in Old Dean

Sites vary more than people expect. The main factors:

  • The size of the system
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • What state the system is in
  • Travel, parking and unloading

Several systems or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Mention every system or site you need covered and we will price it together.

What to send for a quote

A few details help us quote accurately. With your enquiry, please include:

  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • Wide photos of the system and the area around it
  • Problems your staff have spotted

For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. We typically come back within one working day.

Different parts, different methods

Grease troughs and gutters

A blocked or full trough is the usual cause of grease dripping from the canopy. Cleaning it clears the drip.

Pub and hotel kitchens

A hotel or pub kitchen can rarely close for long. Canopy cleans are done late at night or early in the morning so the kitchen keeps trading.

Honest limits

Canopy cleaning can’t fix everything, and we’ll tell you before we start. It does not solve:

  • A light fitting that doesn’t work
  • Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor
  • Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll say what we think before booking.

What the work covers

  • Baffle filters
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Island canopies
  • Grease gutters
  • Wall canopies
  • Plenum chambers

Old Dean: your questions answered

Do you work at weekends in Old Dean?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. It means the site in Old Dean keeps running as normal. When you call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line, mention when the site is quiet.

Will you come out to Old Dean?

Yes, Old Dean is part of our area, however small the site. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

What do you do with what you remove?

Waste is contained during the work and removed when we leave, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. None of it is left on site.

What happens to the filters during the clean?

They’re taken out, cleaned and refitted. Each filter is checked for fit as it goes back, because gaps let grease through.

Who has the legal duty for fire safety?

That depends on who controls the premises. The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty on the responsible person, which can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, an FM or a managing agent.

What kinds of canopies do you clean?

Most commercial kitchen canopies, from one small hood to a long run of canopies. The survey tells us how best to clean yours, from photos or a visit.

What does canopy cleaning cost?

It depends on the site, so we quote each one individually. For a quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and tell us about the site and its opening hours.

Does a canopy clean meet TR19?

A TR19® Grease clean covers the whole system, not just the canopy. A canopy clean helps between full cleans, but the ducts and fan still need doing, and the report will say what was covered.

How the visit works

Everything the job needs comes with us, including protection sheets, the right tools and access kit. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. On site, the work takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. In a smaller place like Old Dean, parking is rarely the issue, but tell us about gates, roof access and opening hours.

  1. The canopy is checked from pictures or on a visit.
  2. Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
  • Clear the space around the work

Ask for a quote

Advice

What happens if it’s left?

Getting the canopy cleaned in Old Dean now saves a bigger job later. It takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits, done while the kitchen is closed. Put off, the grease simply moves further into the system. Light use slows the build-up but does not stop it.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and the price is agreed before any work starts.

Between visits

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it helps at the next visit:

  • Leave the extract running until cooking stops
  • Wipe the canopy down at close every day
  • Tell us when the canopy starts to drip
  • Keep filters on a set cleaning routine

After the clean you get a photo report showing the canopy, plenum and housing before and after. It notes what was cleaned and anything we couldn’t reach, so the record is honest and complete.

Keep the fan running throughout service and for a short while after. Air that keeps moving carries less grease onto the canopy.

What canopy cleaning looks like in Old Dean

According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 5 bars, pubs and nightclubs within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Old Dean. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. Surrey Fire and Rescue Service covers Old Dean. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. In Old Dean, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Surrey Heath council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.

School kitchens, at schools like Collingwood College for example, are normally cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Frimley Park Hospital (about 2.4 miles south-west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near St Martin's Church or elsewhere in Old Dean, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.
