About our canopy cleaning in Nashes Green

We’ve been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We’re often asked to deal with poor capture at the hood and grease dripping from the canopy edge, on baffle filters, wall canopies and plenum chambers.

Work in a small place like Nashes Green starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

A written report with photos follows each visit, so you have a record of what was done and when. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What the work involves, part by part

Plenums and filter housings

Behind neglected filters, the plenum can be heavily coated. Heavy deposits are scraped out by hand before degreasing.

Grease troughs and gutters

Grease channels around the canopy collect what runs down the inside. We empty and degrease them, so they can do their job again.

Questions from Nashes Green

Will you come out to Nashes Green?

Yes, Nashes Green is part of our area, however small the site. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Who is the fire and rescue service for Nashes Green?

Nashes Green is in the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.

How do you protect the area?

With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. The work is kept contained and clean down when we finish.

Is TR19 cleaning required by law?

No. TR19® itself is not law; it’s a BESA specification. The legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005: the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and cleaning to TR19® is the recognised way to show grease is under control.

What does TR19 mean?

TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.

Do you provide photos of the cleaned canopy?

Every clean comes with a photo report, listing what was cleaned. A full TR19 clean adds a certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, to suit the system and how it’s used.

How much does canopy cleaning cost?

Size, condition, access and working hours all affect the cost. Ask us for a fixed quote, typically ready within one working day.

Why deal with it now?

In Nashes Green, as elsewhere, a greasy canopy is one of the first things an inspector sees. Keeping it clean shows the rest of the kitchen is being looked after, and it’s far easier to keep clean than to rescue. Planning a trip to Nashes Green ahead is easier for everyone than a rushed one.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and why the quote is fixed before any work starts.

What we do, step by step

Your staff do not need to do much on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and we take it from there. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows. Photos of the system and how to reach it help us plan a visit to Nashes Green.

  1. The canopy is checked from pictures or on a visit.
  2. Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. Inside and out, the hood and its troughs are cleaned.
  5. We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.

Advice

Keeping the system healthy

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:

  • Keep grease cups and drawers emptied
  • Don’t scrape the canopy with metal tools
  • Keep filters on a set cleaning routine
  • Leave the extract running until cooking stops

We clear away the sheeting, waste grease and water before we leave. Every filter is refitted and checked, and the kitchen is ready to cook.

Don’t let canopy gutters fill to the brim. Overflowing troughs are the usual cause of drips onto the range, so make emptying them part of the closing routine.

Grease, kitchens and Nashes Green

About 46 miles out from central London, Nashes Green is part of the South East area we work across. The visit is fixed around your opening hours, not ours. In Nashes Green, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Basingstoke and Deane council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

Healthcare kitchens cannot easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Nashes Green is Alton Community Hospital, about 4.8 miles south-east. Hall Place, about 3.3 miles south, is one of the historic houses near Nashes Green; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St. Mary or elsewhere in Nashes Green, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

What a clean won’t put right

Before you book, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • Filters that no longer seal in the housing
  • A fan that cannot pull enough air because it’s worn out
  • Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will tell you honestly.

What the work covers

  • Wall canopies
  • Grease gutters
  • Island canopies
  • Plenum chambers
  • Baffle filters
  • Canopy light fittings

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare in Nashes Green and across Hampshire. Larger estates can be phased building by building around the people who use them.

For anyone managing more than one site, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Every building has its own written report, so each one has its own record.
