Canopy cleaning in Mayford
We’ve been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. The work covers canopy light fittings, plenum chambers and baffle filters, and the jobs we see most are overflowing grease troughs and gutters and grease dripping from the canopy edge.
For a kitchen in or near Mayford, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.
Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. That’s why every job is written up in a report with pictures, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

What else we do in Mayford
When to call us in Mayford
Moisture in the air mixes with the grease on the canopy. As the canopy cools, condensation forms, carrying grease with it. The result is sticky streaks and drips onto the range.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Condensation running down the canopy
- A plenum thick with grease behind the filters
- A greasy hood noticed by an inspector
- Fat running down the front of the hood
A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near St Mark's Church or elsewhere in Mayford, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Canopy cleaning around Mayford
Food Standards Agency records list about 13 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 5 sandwich bars and takeaways in Mayford and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Every kitchen among them that cooks under a canopy has a hood, plenum and filters collecting grease. Surrey Fire and Rescue Service covers Mayford. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. In Mayford, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Woking council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.
Bursars and site managers at schools such as Westfield Primary School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty. A kitchen near Worplesdon station that serves breakfast and dinner can run its extract twelve hours or more, which shortens the cleaning interval.

Part by part
Grease troughs and gutters
A blocked or full trough is the usual cause of grease dripping from the canopy. Cleaning it clears the drip.
School and staff canteen kitchens
School and canteen kitchens often cook to set hours, so the canopy can be cleaned when the kitchen is closed. Holidays and weekends work well.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that is where we come in.
Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
Keeping the system healthy
A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. We recommend:
- Keep the fan on through service
- Refit filters the right way round and fully seated
- Clean the baffle filters often
- Avoid harsh scourers that scratch the canopy
Anything worth knowing goes into the report: bent or poorly fitting filters, a light cover that’s cracked, or troughs that fill too quickly. We keep it to what matters.
Empty the grease troughs and cups before they fill. Most canopy drips start with a full trough, so make emptying them part of the closing routine.
Why it’s worth doing now in Mayford
Getting the canopy cleaned in Mayford now saves a bigger job later. The work takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits, done while the kitchen is closed. Put off, the grease simply moves further into the system. Systems in rural buildings are often out of sight and out of mind.
Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before any work starts.

How it works
We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before work begins, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. The work itself takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. If you can send pictures, we can arrive in Mayford knowing what to expect.
- Diagnosis first: we look behind the filters as well as at the hood.
- Equipment is turned off and cooled, and the area under the canopy is protected.
- Heavy deposits come off by hand, then the surfaces are degreased.
- Plenum, housing, troughs and canopy are all cleaned and checked.
- The canopy is signed off with before and after photos and a next clean date.
Before we arrive
- Agree a time when the area can be out of use
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
Get a fixed quote
Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in pictures, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work starts.

Common questions in Mayford
Can a school canteen extract in Mayford be done out of term time?
Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. Food Standards Agency records list about 4 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Mayford. Just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with your term dates and we’ll plan around them.
Can you work in Mayford outside opening hours?
Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. That way a site in Mayford does not have to lose a day’s trading. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.
Which sectors do you work in?
Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a small pub to a hospital. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.
Will I get a report after the canopy clean?
A photo report shows the canopy and plenum before and after. If the canopy is cleaned as part of a full TR19 clean, a TR19 certificate is issued too.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7 for anything that cannot wait until a planned visit. Call us any time and explain what’s happened.
Who has the legal duty for fire safety?
In the words of the Fire Safety Order 2005, it’s the responsible person. It’s normally the employer, or whoever controls the building, and in shared buildings more than one person can have duties. Your lease and fire risk assessment should make it clear.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. Full insurance covers our work and have been trading since 2009.
What causes grease to drip from the hood?
Grease that builds up inside the canopy has to go somewhere. When the gutters fill, it overflows onto the range, often mixed with condensation. A thorough clean stops it.
