Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Little Frieth

Duct Doctor has cleaned canopies and hoods since 2009. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. If you are dealing with a canopy that no longer draws the smoke away and filters that never seem to stay clean, we can help.

Somewhere as small as Little Frieth, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Common questions in Little Frieth

Can you come to Little Frieth after we close?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. It means the site in Little Frieth keeps running as normal. When you ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form, mention when the site is quiet.

Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Little Frieth?

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Little Frieth. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

What causes grease to drip from the hood?

A full trough, gaps around the filters or a coated plenum. We clean the canopy, plenum and troughs and tell you what we find.

Who is the responsible person?

That depends on who controls the premises. The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty on the responsible person, which can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, an FM or a managing agent.

Which accreditations do you hold?

BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We have been trading since 2009 and we are fully insured.

Which sectors do you work in?

Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a single café to a large school. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.

What about areas you cannot get to?

We never leave them off the paperwork. You’ll know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.

Is canopy cleaning enough for TR19?

A TR19® Grease clean covers the whole system, not just the canopy. Cleaning the canopy alone leaves the ducts, risers and fan untouched, and the report will say what was covered.

For landlords and multi-site operators

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We are happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.

What happens on the day

We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that’s an evening, overnight or a weekend. When the team arrives, the work area is protected and the relevant equipment is switched off to cool, and the work takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Little Frieth before we set off.

  1. We start by checking the canopy, filters and plenum.
  2. The range is turned off and allowed to cool before we cover it.
  3. Filters come out and the plenum behind them is scraped and degreased.
  4. The canopy is cleaned inside and out, including troughs and seams.
  5. Filters go back, the area is cleaned down and photos are taken.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms

Getting a quote

There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To start, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

What canopy cleaning can’t fix

It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:

  • A fan that cannot pull enough air because it’s worn out
  • Bent or broken filters
  • A dirty extract fan further along the system

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will tell you honestly.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Canopy light fittings
  • Plenum chambers
  • Wall canopies
  • Grease gutters
  • Baffle filters
  • Island canopies

Why act early in Little Frieth

Leaving the canopy until the next full clean can mean months of build-up. In a busy kitchen, the canopy and plenum can need attention between TR19 cleans, and readings or a look behind the filters will show it. Somewhere as small as Little Frieth, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.

Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before any work starts.

How we price canopy cleaning

You will get a fixed price before any work starts. It takes into account:

  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • The scale of the work
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing

Several systems or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at, and you’ll get one fixed quote.

What we need to know

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:

  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings

Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

When to call us in Little Frieth

A canopy with gaps around its filters lets grease straight through. More grease reaches the plenum and housing than they’re designed to take, which shows up as heavy deposits when the filters come out.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Filters that clog soon after cleaning
  • A plenum thick with grease behind the filters
  • Grease channels that no longer drain
  • Grease dripping from the canopy edge

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St John the Evangelist, or anywhere in Little Frieth, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.
