Canopy and hood cleaning in Launton, Oxfordshire
Our technicians work in Launton on deep cleaning of kitchen canopies, hoods, plenums and grease filters, inside and out. Out-of-hours visits, a fixed quote and a written report with photos as standard.
- Greasy streaks across the canopy
- A filter housing caked in grease
- Grease channels that no longer drain
What happens if it’s left?
Baked-on grease gets harder to shift the longer it stays. Heat from the range bakes canopy grease into a hard, dark layer, which makes a later clean slower and harder. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.
What you pay depends on the size of the system, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises.

About our canopy cleaning in Launton
Duct Doctor has cleaned canopies and hoods since 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we are fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. The work covers baffle filters, plenum chambers and canopy light fittings, and common reasons people get in touch are heavy deposits behind the grease filters and an EHO comment about the canopy.
For a kitchen in or near Launton, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

How the visit works
Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. Then we make the system safe and start. The work on site takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Launton, let us know and we’ll plan around it.
- We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
- Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
- With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
- The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
- We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.
Getting ready for the visit
- Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
- Clear loose items from the work area
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
Get a fixed quote
The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Canopy cleaning in Launton: the local picture
Food Standards Agency records include about 3 pubs and bars in Launton and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. Launton sits within the area of Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. Food hygiene inspections in Launton are the job of Cherwell council’s environmental health team. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.
If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Launton Church of England Primary School or anywhere near Launton, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Mary or elsewhere in Launton, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

What the work involves, part by part
Plenums and filter housings
Behind the grease filters is the plenum. It catches whatever gets past the filters, so it’s scraped and degreased on every canopy clean.
Pub and hotel kitchens
A hotel or pub kitchen can rarely close for long. We clean the canopy overnight or between services so the kitchen keeps trading.
Looking after it afterwards
How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Avoid harsh scourers that scratch the canopy
- Flag any change in how the canopy behaves
- Make sure filters sit tight in the housing
- Never run the range with a filter out
We recommend when the canopy, or the whole system, should next be cleaned. It reflects how long the kitchen cooks and how much grease we removed, in line with BESA guidance.
Clean filters are the canopy’s first defence. Keep them on a regular cleaning or exchange cycle, and make sure they’re all in place before cooking. Less grease gets into the plenum as a result.
Common questions in Launton
Can you come to Launton after we close?
Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. That way a site in Launton does not have to lose a day’s trading. Just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with your opening times and we will plan around them.
Which fire authority looks after Launton?
That’s Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
Do you clean canopies in all kinds of kitchens?
Wall canopies, island canopies and single hoods over individual appliances. The method is the same: filters out, plenum and housing cleaned, canopy degreased inside and out.
Is Launton in your area?
Yes. Our area takes in London and the counties of South East England, and that includes Launton.
How long will it take to clean the canopy?
That depends on the size of the canopy and how much grease is on it. As a guide, it takes a few hours for most canopies.
What’s TR19?
TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.
Is the inside of the hood cleaned?
The full canopy, inside and out, and the plenum behind it. Grease troughs and filter channels are emptied and degreased as part of the job.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. Photos often do the job, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.

When to call us in Launton
Steam and condensation make canopy grease harder to deal with. As the canopy cools, condensation forms and runs with the grease. The result is sticky streaks and drips onto the range.
Clients usually contact us when they notice one of these:
- Canopy gutters full of old fat
- A canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection
- Heavy deposits behind the grease filters
- Fat running down the front of the hood
Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Bicester Community Hospital (about 1.7 miles west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.
Questions to ask before booking
- Whether they recommend a next date
- What happens if part of the system cannot be accessed
- Whether they’re fully insured
- Whether the figure could change on the day
Fixed quotes for canopy cleaning in Launton
A fixed price needs a few facts first. We check:
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
- Any permits to work or inductions
- How big the system is
- How many systems or sites are involved
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Problems in a system tend to grow, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you’re not sure what’s needed, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos for straight advice and a fixed quote.
What we need to know
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:
- Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
Need a price for canopy cleaning? Please call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and tell us about the site. We will talk you through the work and give you a fixed quote before you commit to anything.
What your team can do, and what needs us
Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.
A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.
