Canopy cleaning for sites in Hyde

Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Hyde

Canopy cleans are done out of hours: after service, overnight or at the weekend. The equipment underneath is switched off, left to cool and sheeted, and the kitchen is left ready for the next service. If you have grease dripping from the canopy edge and heavy deposits behind the grease filters, we can put it right, from grease gutters, wall canopies and baffle filters onwards.

In a village or hamlet like Hyde, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are usually a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease, whatever the size of the place.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

What affects the cost of canopy cleaning

You’ll get a fixed price before any work starts. It takes into account:

  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • The number of sites or systems
  • What state the system is in

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before work begins.

Helping us quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:

  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • The site address and the type of premises

Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before work begins.

What happens on the day

The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to Hyde.

  1. We look at the canopy first, from photos or on a visit.
  2. Equipment below is switched off and left to cool, then sheeted.
  3. Filters come out and the plenum behind them is scraped and degreased.
  4. We degrease the canopy shell, its seams and the grease troughs.
  5. Filters go back, the area is cleaned down and pictures are taken.

How to prepare

  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need

Advice

FAQs for Hyde

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Hyde?

The local authority for Hyde is New Forest council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.

Is Hyde within the area you cover?

Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Hyde is covered. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Do you clean canopies in all kinds of kitchens?

Wall and island canopies, long cooking-line hoods and small single hoods. Each one is cleaned inside and out, with the plenum behind the filters.

How long will it take to clean the canopy?

A single canopy with a light build-up is fairly quick, but large or heavily soiled canopies take longer. We will tell you what to expect.

Are you insured?

Yes, fully. CHAS and SafeContractor accreditation sit alongside it, for sites that check contractor safety.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes, of course. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we’ll suggest a schedule and quote for it.

What is TR19?

TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.

How much notice do you need?

That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.

Why deal with it now?

Fresh grease comes off far more easily than old. Over months, the heat hardens it into a stubborn coating, which makes a later clean slower and harder. It’s simpler to plan the work at Hyde now than to arrange it in a hurry later.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we survey first, from photos or on site, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.

Common problems we fix in Hyde

Moisture in the air mixes with the grease on the canopy. Water vapour condenses on the cooler canopy surfaces and drips and runs with the grease. Drips onto the cooking line are a common result.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • Overflowing grease troughs and gutters
  • A sticky, discoloured canopy
  • A canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection
  • Fat running down the front of the hood

Where a hall near Church of the Holy Ascension, or anywhere in Hyde, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

What your quote should include

  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
  • Whether they recommend a next date
  • What hours they’ll be on site
  • Whether the price is fixed

Our hiring checklist

Part by part

School and staff canteen kitchens

In a school or workplace canteen, the canopy is often the only part of the extract staff ever see. We clean it and the plenum behind the filters, so what’s out of sight is dealt with too.

Wall canopies

A wall-mounted canopy runs along the back of the range. Grease often collects where the canopy meets the wall, so we clean along it as well as the inner skin.

Kitchen extracts in Hyde

The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 4 bars, pubs and nightclubs within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Hyde. Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. Food hygiene inspections in Hyde are the job of New Forest council’s environmental health team. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Hyde sits within the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Breamore House is about 4.4 miles north), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Hyde Church of England Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

What canopy cleaning cannot fix

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • A dirty extract fan further along the system
  • Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
  • Bent or broken filters

If you are not sure, just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Baffle filters
  • Wall canopies
  • Plenum chambers
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Island canopies
  • Grease gutters

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that is where we come in.

Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.
