Harestock canopy cleaning
Specialist canopy cleaning for Harestock: diagnosis first, then a fixed quote, the work and a report with photos. Call for a fixed quote.
- A filter housing caked in grease
- Grease filters blocking between washes
- Condensation and grease dripping together
How we handle canopy cleaning in Harestock
Every TR19® Grease clean includes the canopy, but a canopy can also need cleaning on its own, between full system cleans. In that case, the report makes clear what was and wasn’t cleaned, so your records stay accurate. Typical jobs include a plenum thick with grease behind the filters and wet, greasy drips from the hood, on baffle filters, canopy light fittings and island canopies.
Size doesn’t change the work: a kitchen in a place like Harestock gets the whole system cleaned, canopy to discharge. We plan the visit around your hours, with the journey sorted in advance.
The report is your system’s health record: dated, with pictures, and showing what was done. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal, ready for your insurer.

What affects the cost of canopy cleaning
The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:
- Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- The times the site is available
- Site rules, permits and inductions
No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.
Asking for a quote
Before you ask for a quote, gather:
- Your last certificate, test record or report
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
We do not publish a price list, because every site is different. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To get going, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
What staff can safely do
Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.
Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

What else we do in Harestock
When it’s something else
A few issues sit outside what this work can do:
- Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
- A hood that doesn’t cover the cooking line
- Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)
Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will tell you honestly before you book.
Parts of the system we cover
- Grease gutters
- Canopy light fittings
- Plenum chambers
- Baffle filters
- Island canopies
- Wall canopies
Leave it or put it right?
Fresh grease comes off far more easily than old. Over months, the heat hardens it into a stubborn coating, which makes a later clean slower and harder. When a site near Harestock shuts unexpectedly, the people who rely on it notice at once.
One small site or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the timing. You’ll have a fixed price before we start.

Harestock questions
Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Harestock?
That’s Winchester City council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Harestock. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.
Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Harestock?
Harestock is in the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.
What do you do with what you remove?
Waste is contained during the work and removed when we leave, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. We do not leave it behind.
Who has the legal duty for fire safety?
The Fire Safety Order 2005 calls them the responsible person: often the employer, owner or occupier. In shared or managed buildings, a landlord, facilities manager or managing agent can share the duty.
What if parts of the system cannot be reached?
We record them on the report, with a note of where it is, and we tell you what would make it reachable, such as extra access panels in ductwork.
Is canopy cleaning enough for TR19?
A canopy-only clean is possible, but it is not a full TR19 clean. TR19 Grease covers everything the grease travels through, at intervals set by BESA guidance.
Do you provide photos of the cleaned canopy?
Every clean comes with a photo report, listing what was cleaned. Where the whole system is cleaned, you also get a TR19 certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.
What types of premises do you cover?
Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a single café to a large school. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.
How the visit works
We start by comparing what we find with the survey or your photos. If anything is different, we talk it through with the person on site before carrying on. After that, the work takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Evenings, weekends or a closed day all work for a site in a place like Harestock.
- Diagnosis first: we look behind the filters as well as at the hood.
- Equipment is turned off and cooled, and the area under the canopy is protected.
- Heavy deposits come off by hand, then the surfaces are degreased.
- Plenum, housing, troughs and canopy are all cleaned and checked.
- The canopy is signed off with before and after photos and a next clean date.
Getting ready for the visit
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
- Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
- Tell us where we can park and unload
Get a fixed quote
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
Advice
Do you need canopy cleaning in Harestock?
Most canopies have troughs or channels that catch running grease. If they’re not emptied, they fill and overflow, so fat ends up running down the front of the hood.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Filters that never seem to stay clean
- Condensation and grease dripping together
- Grease dripping from the canopy edge
- Heavy deposits behind the grease filters
School kitchens, at schools like Harestock Primary School for example, are typically cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.
Comparing quotes
- Whether the price is fixed
- When they can work, and whether that’s outside your opening hours
- Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor

Part by part
Wall canopies
A wall-mounted canopy runs along the back of the range. Grease often collects where the canopy meets the wall, and we clean that join along with the inside of the hood.
Pub and hotel kitchens
Few pubs and hotels can shut the kitchen for a day. We clean the canopy overnight or between services so the kitchen keeps trading.
Grease, kitchens and Harestock
Food Standards Agency data counts about 26 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 18 sandwich bars and takeaways across Harestock and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Where they cook under a hood, the plenum behind the filters is where grease hides. Food hygiene inspections in Harestock are the job of Winchester City council’s environmental health team. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Fire safety in Harestock falls to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.
Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Royal Hampshire County Hospital (about 1.5 miles south), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Saint Barnabas, or anywhere in Harestock, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.
