Canopy cleaning in Halfway
Has the canopy started to drip or look neglected? Send us a photo of the hood and filters when you ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos, and you will get a fixed price, normally within one working day. The work covers wall canopies, canopy light fittings and grease gutters, and the jobs we see most are a hood coated in old grease and filters that never seem to stay clean.
For a kitchen in or near Halfway, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we are fully insured. We are also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

Between visits
Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:
- Use non-abrasive cloths on the hood
- Clean the hood’s outer surfaces daily
- Check and empty canopy gutters regularly
- Refit filters the right way round and fully seated
We clear away the sheeting, waste grease and water before we leave. Filters are back in place and seated properly, and the kitchen is ready to cook.
Empty the grease troughs and cups before they fill. Most canopy drips start with a full trough, so make emptying them part of the closing routine.

Questions from Halfway
Who is the fire and rescue service for Halfway?
That is Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.
Do you cover smaller places like Halfway?
Yes. Halfway is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.
Will I get a report after the canopy clean?
A photo report, with before and after pictures of the canopy and plenum. It also gives a recommended date for the next clean.
What happens to the waste?
Waste is contained during the work and removed when we leave, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. None of it is left on site.
Who is the responsible person?
It depends on the building. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, it’s the responsible person, which can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, an FM or a managing agent.
How much notice do you need?
It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.
Which canopies and hoods do you clean?
Wall canopies, island canopies and single hoods over individual appliances. Each one is cleaned inside and out, with the plenum behind the filters.
Why does grease run off the canopy edge?
Grease that builds up inside the canopy has to go somewhere. Once the troughs and plenum are full, it runs down and drips, often mixed with condensation. A thorough clean stops it.
Honest limits
It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:
- Electrical faults in the canopy
- A canopy undersized for the equipment
- Bent or broken filters
If you’re not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.
What the work covers
- Grease gutters
- Canopy light fittings
- Plenum chambers
- Baffle filters
- Wall canopies
- Island canopies
How the visit works
We start by comparing what we find with the survey or your photos. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, the work takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. Somewhere as small as Halfway, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.
- Diagnosis first: we look behind the filters as well as at the hood.
- Equipment is turned off and cooled, and the area under the canopy is protected.
- Thick grease is scraped away before the canopy is degreased.
- We finish the plenum, troughs and canopy and check them over.
- You get pictures of the result and a recommended date for the next clean.
How to prepare
- Move anything stored near the system
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
Getting a quote
Quotes are quick. Call or email with a few details and you will normally have a fixed price within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.
Advice
Common problems we fix in Halfway
Air straight off the range hits the canopy first. Fat in that air settles on the inside of the hood, in its seams and on the filters, and the plenum behind them collects the rest.
Any of these means the system needs a check-up:
- A sticky, discoloured canopy
- Wet, greasy drips from the hood
- A plenum thick with grease behind the filters
- Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Mary or elsewhere in Halfway, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.
Questions to ask before booking
- Proof of accreditation you can verify
- Whether the figure could change on the day
- Whether they’re fully insured
- What records you will receive afterwards
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that is where we come in.
For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
Why it’s worth doing now in Halfway
Leaving the canopy until the next full clean can mean months of build-up. In a busy kitchen, the canopy and plenum can need attention between TR19 cleans, and readings or a look behind the filters will show it. Our emergency line runs 24/7, but a planned visit to Halfway is calmer for everyone.
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before work begins.

Multi-site and managed buildings
If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so records stay tidy.
Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across West Berkshire. Larger estates can be phased building by building around the people who use them.
Kitchen extracts in Halfway
Halfway is covered by Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. Halfway is about 57 miles from central London, well within the area we cover across London and the South East. Visits are booked around your hours, evenings and weekends included.
Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as West Berkshire Community Hospital (about 5.2 miles east), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Benham Park is about 1.9 miles east), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning.
