Firgo canopy cleaning
Canopy cleaning for Firgo and the surrounding area: a survey, a fixed price, careful work and proper paperwork. Ask us for a fixed quote.
- Poor capture at the hood
- A greasy hood noticed by an inspector
- Heavy deposits behind the grease filters
Why deal with it now?
Getting the canopy cleaned in Firgo now saves a bigger job later. It takes a few hours for most canopies, done while the kitchen is closed. Left alone, grease keeps moving into the plenum and duct. Equipment tucked in a roof space or outbuilding near Firgo rarely gets looked at unless someone books it.
Several systems or sites on one quote can make for a more efficient booking. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we’ll price it together.

About our canopy cleaning in Firgo
We’ve been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. The work covers plenum chambers, grease gutters and canopy light fittings, and common reasons people get in touch are greasy streaks across the canopy and condensation and grease dripping together.
In a village or hamlet like Firgo, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are usually a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.
We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we are fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

Between visits
After the visit, a few habits help the work last:
- Wash or exchange the filters on a regular cycle
- Clean the hood’s outer surfaces daily
- Don’t scrape the canopy with metal tools
- Empty the grease troughs before they fill
Keep the photo report with your maintenance log where an inspector can see it. Photos of a clean canopy and plenum make the record easy to follow.
A daily wipe of the hood keeps fresh grease from baking on. It does not reach the plenum, but it stops the outside building up.
Managing agents and facilities teams in Firgo
We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across Hampshire. Larger estates can be phased building by building around the people who use them.
Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.
What happens on the day
There’s very little for your team to do on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and the rest is down to us. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows. Seeing the system in pictures first means the trip to Firgo can be planned properly.
- First the canopy is surveyed, by pictures or in person.
- Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
- We remove the grease filters and clean the plenum and filter housing.
- Inside and out, the canopy and its grease channels are degreased.
- Clean filters are refitted and before and after photos go into your report.
Getting ready for the visit
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
- Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
- Find the previous report, if there is one
Ask for a quote
The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

How we price canopy cleaning
Your quote is based on your site. We consider:
- The condition we find in the survey
- The times the site is available
- How easy every part is to reach
- How big the system is
You won’t find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we will explain what it covers.
What to send for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. Just send:
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
Here’s what helps us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, photos of the system and any previous report or certificate. Then give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.
Do you need canopy cleaning in Firgo?
Filters that are missing, damaged or badly seated leave gaps. The plenum and housing behind them then take far more grease than they should, which shows up as heavy deposits when the filters come out.
Look out for any of the following:
- Condensation running down the canopy
- Grease filters blocking between washes
- A canopy that no longer draws the smoke away
- A filter housing caked in grease
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Mary or elsewhere in Firgo, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.
Questions to ask before booking
- Exactly which parts of the system are covered
- Whether they recommend a next date
- Whether a written report and photos are included
- Whether VAT is included
Honest limits
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what canopy cleaning will not do:
- Grease in the duct runs and risers behind the canopy
- A hood that does not cover the cooking line
- Electrical faults in the canopy
If you’re not sure, just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Questions from Firgo
Do you cover smaller places like Firgo?
Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Firgo included. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Do you work at weekends in Firgo?
Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. Your customers, staff or residents in Firgo needn’t be disturbed. Let us know the hours you’re closed and we’ll book within them.
How do you protect the area?
With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. The work is kept contained and clean down when we finish.
Which accreditations do you hold?
Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes, 24/7. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and the emergency line covers the rest.
What does TR19 mean?
A BESA specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark.
Is TR19 a legal requirement?
No. TR19® itself is not law; it’s a BESA specification. The law is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which makes the responsible person assess and reduce fire risk, and TR19® is the benchmark for showing that grease in the extract is under control.
How long is a canopy clean?
A single canopy with a light build-up is fairly quick, but large or heavily soiled canopies take longer. You’ll know before we start.
Grease, kitchens and Firgo
The fire and rescue service for Firgo is Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. It’s Basingstoke and Deane council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Firgo. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.
For schools such as Testbourne Community School, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.
