Canopy cleaning around Finstock

Finstock sits within the area of Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. It’s West Oxfordshire council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Finstock. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.

If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Minster Lovell Hall is about 3.8 miles south-west), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning. Where a hall near Church of the Holy Trinity, or anywhere in Finstock, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

Finstock is about 4 miles north of Witney, in Oxfordshire. Across the OX7 area, we cover canopy cleaning for commercial sites. Finstock is one of 443 towns, villages and districts in Oxfordshire where we work for canopy cleaning. There’s also a page for Oxford, about 12 miles away.

Work in OX7 follows the same survey, fixed quote and written report as everywhere else we cover. Canopy cleaning is available to premises on High Street, Hill Crescent and Well Hill and the roads around them. We also cover Ramsden (1 mile south-west), Fawler (1 mile north-east), Delly End (2 miles south), Charlbury (2 miles north) and Stonesfield (2 miles east). Further out, we also cover Oxford (12 miles south-east), Bicester (14 miles east), Abingdon-on-Thames (14 miles south-east), Witney (4 miles south), Carterton (7 miles south-west) and Faringdon (14 miles south).

Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Finstock

Canopy cleans are done out of hours: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Cooking equipment is turned off and cooled, then covered, and the kitchen is left ready for the next service. If you have fat running down the front of the hood and grease filters blocking between washes, we can put it right.

For a kitchen in or near Finstock, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. That’s why every job is written up in a report with pictures, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Looking after it afterwards

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. A few tips:

  • Wipe the canopy down at close every day
  • Check filters aren’t leaving gaps
  • Use non-abrasive cloths on the hood
  • Keep every filter in place while cooking

Anything worth knowing goes into the report: damaged filters, gaps around the housing or troughs that need emptying more often. We keep it to what matters.

Tell us if the canopy starts dripping or the filters clog sooner than usual. More drips or quicker clogging often mean the cleaning interval needs looking at, which a grease thickness test can confirm.

Finstock questions

Who inspects food businesses in Finstock?

In Finstock, it’s West Oxfordshire council that carries out food hygiene inspections. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Finstock?

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Finstock. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

What does canopy cleaning cost?

The cost depends on the size of the system, its condition, access and timing. Ask us for a fixed quote and we will usually reply within one working day.

Is Finstock in your area?

Yes. Our technicians work in Finstock, within the South East and London area we cover.

Can you clean the canopy outside our opening hours?

Out-of-hours cleans are how we work, at night, early in the morning or at weekends. We leave it clean and ready for the next service.

What should I send you?

Just the basics: the address, the site type, your opening hours and how we reach the system. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. After that, simply ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

Is TR19 cleaning required by law?

No. TR19® itself isn’t law; it’s a BESA specification. The legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005: the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and TR19® is the benchmark for showing that grease in the extract is under control.

What happens to the waste?

We take it away when we go. While we work, it’s kept contained to keep the area clean.

What the work involves, part by part

Plenums and filter housings

Behind the grease filters is the plenum. It catches whatever gets past the filters, and it’s cleaned every time we clean the canopy.

Wall canopies

Wall canopies sit against a wall over a cooking line. Grease often collects where the canopy meets the wall, and we clean that join along with the inside of the hood.

The process

A visit follows the same order every time: protect the area, make the system safe, do the work, clear away and hand over the paperwork. The visit itself takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Finstock, let us know and we’ll plan around it.

  1. Diagnosis first: we look behind the filters as well as at the hood.
  2. Equipment is turned off and cooled, and the area under the canopy is protected.
  3. Heavy deposits come off by hand, then the surfaces are degreased.
  4. Plenum, housing, troughs and canopy are all cleaned and checked.
  5. You get photos of the result and a recommended date for the next clean.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time

What affects the cost of canopy cleaning

The survey tells us what the work involves. We look at:

  • The condition we find in the survey
  • How easy every part is to reach
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • A single visit or a regular plan

What you pay depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before work begins, so you know where you stand.

Helping us quote

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Send what you can of the following:

  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to

Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from photos and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we start.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.

What we are called out for in Finstock

Filters that are missing, damaged or badly seated leave gaps. The plenum and housing behind them then take far more grease than they should, which shows up as heavy deposits when the filters come out.

Keep an eye out for these warning signs:

  • A greasy hood noticed by an inspector
  • Wet, greasy drips from the hood
  • Heavy deposits behind the grease filters
  • Grease filters blocking between washes

If you cook for passing trade around Finstock station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer.

Comparing quotes

  • Proof of accreditation you can verify
  • What happens if part of the system can’t be accessed
  • What records you will receive afterwards
  • How they set the interval to the next visit

What a clean will not put right

Not every problem is solved by canopy cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It does not solve:

  • Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor
  • A light fitting that does not work
  • Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)

If you are not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll give you a straight answer.
