Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Fair Oak
We’ve been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we are fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. The work covers plenum chambers, wall canopies and grease gutters, and people most often call us about drips from the canopy onto the range and a filter housing caked in grease.
In a village or hamlet like Fair Oak, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are typically a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.
Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a written report, dated and illustrated with photos, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

Fair Oak: your questions answered
Do you work in villages like Fair Oak?
Yes, Fair Oak is part of our area, however small the site. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.
Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Fair Oak?
That is Basingstoke and Deane council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Fair Oak. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.
Are you fully insured?
Yes, we’re fully insured. We also hold CHAS and SafeContractor for clients who vet their contractors.
Do you work with multi-site operators?
Yes. We work across South East England and London, so we can schedule a run of sites as one programme. Each site gets its own report and photos.
What does TR19 mean?
TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Scheduled maintenance plans are part of what we do, with visits at the interval your system needs. The report from each visit recommends the next date.
What do you do to protect the area?
Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before we start, and anything we remove is contained. At the end, the area is cleaned down.
Is canopy cleaning enough for TR19?
A TR19® Grease clean covers the whole system, not just the canopy. Cleaning the canopy alone leaves the ducts, risers and fan untouched, and the report will say what was covered.
Honest limits
Not every problem is solved by canopy cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not put right:
- A light fitting that does not work
- A dirty extract fan further along the system
- Poor airflow from a fan that needs repair
Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will tell you honestly before you book.
Where we work
- Wall canopies
- Grease gutters
- Island canopies
- Canopy light fittings
- Plenum chambers
- Baffle filters
Looking after it afterwards
To keep the system working properly between visits:
- Clean the baffle filters often
- Leave the extract running until cooking stops
- Check all filters are fitted before service
- Avoid harsh scourers that scratch the canopy
The report gives a recommended next clean date. That date is based on your cooking hours and what we found, in line with BESA guidance.
Run the extract for as long as anything is cooking. Air that keeps moving carries less grease onto the canopy.
Different parts, different methods
School and staff canteen kitchens
Lighter cooking still leaves grease on the canopy. BESA guidance still sets a minimum interval for the whole system, and the canopy is part of it.
Wall canopies
Wall canopies sit against a wall over a cooking line. The joint between canopy and wall is a common grease trap, and we clean that join along with the inside of the hood.
Common problems we fix in Fair Oak
Because the plenum sits behind the filters, it’s easy to forget. Daily cleaning reaches the canopy face but rarely gets further, so the plenum often carries months of grease.
Most sites get in touch when they notice one of these:
- Condensation and grease dripping together
- Poor capture at the hood
- Grease channels that no longer drain
- A greasy hood noticed by an inspector
Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Paul, or anywhere in Fair Oak, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.
Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.
Why it’s worth doing now in Fair Oak
A blocked plenum and clogged filters cut the airflow at the canopy. Smoke and heat hang around the cooking line while the fan strains. Cleaning restores the path the air should take. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.
A single site or a whole portfolio, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. You will have a fixed price before we start.
Why Fair Oak businesses choose us
- Every job surveyed first
- A fixed price before any work starts
- A written report with pictures after every visit
- CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001

The process
At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and the same goes into the written report. All told, the work takes a few hours for most canopies. Visits to a village like Fair Oak are booked in advance, at a time that suits whoever runs the site.
- The canopy is checked from photos or on a visit.
- Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
- We lift out the filters and scrape the plenum and housing.
- The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
- We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.
