How we handle canopy cleaning in Eddington
Dripping edges and a sticky hood are the first things a visitor notices. What is not seen, behind the filters, tends to be worse. We clean both, so the canopy is clean where it shows and where it doesn’t. The work covers canopy light fittings, wall canopies and baffle filters, and common reasons people get in touch are smoke hanging around the canopy during service and grease dripping from the canopy edge.
Work in a small place like Eddington starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

What we do, step by step
Your staff do not need to do much on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and the rest is down to us. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. A quick note on how to find the site and where to park makes a visit to Eddington run smoothly.
- The canopy is checked from pictures or on a visit.
- Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
- With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
- Inside and out, the hood and its troughs are cleaned.
- We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
- Clear the space around the work
Get a fixed quote
Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your pictures and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. Then we send a fixed price, before any work starts.
Advice
What canopy cleaning can’t fix
We’d rather tell you now than book work that will not help, so these are the things it won’t cover:
- A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that’s a design question)
- Electrical faults in the canopy
- Bent or broken filters
If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will say what we think before booking.

FAQs for Eddington
Do you work overnight in Eddington?
Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. It means the site in Eddington keeps running as normal. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.
Is Eddington within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Which canopies and hoods do you clean?
Wall canopies, island canopies and single hoods over individual appliances. Each one is cleaned inside and out, with the plenum behind the filters.
What do you do with what you remove?
We take it away at the end of the visit. During the work, it’s contained to keep the area clean.
Are you accredited?
BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We have been trading since 2009 and we are fully insured.
Does the law say we must follow TR19?
No, not in itself. TR19® is the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs check against, and many insurance policies ask for proof of TR19® cleaning. The law behind it is the Fire Safety Order 2005, which applies in England and Wales.
Do you provide photos of the cleaned canopy?
Every clean comes with a photo report that lists what was cleaned and anything we couldn’t reach. Where the whole system is cleaned, you also get a TR19 certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.
How long is a canopy clean?
That depends on the size of the canopy and how much grease is on it. As a guide, it takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up.
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.
A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That’s our job.
What canopy cleaning looks like in Eddington
The FSA’s data shows about 6 bars, pubs and nightclubs registered in Eddington and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. Environmental health officers from West Berkshire council inspect food businesses in Eddington. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. The fire and rescue service for Eddington is Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.
If you cook for passing trade around Hungerford station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Hungerford Methodist Church, or anywhere in Eddington, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. For schools such as Hungerford Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

Why act early in Eddington
Leaving the canopy until the next full clean can mean months of build-up. Some kitchens need the canopy cleaning more often than the whole system, and readings or a look behind the filters will show it. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you are unsure, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

How we price canopy cleaning
You’ll get a fixed price before we start. It’s based on:
- The times the site is available
- The condition we find in the survey
- Travel, parking and unloading
- The number of sites or systems
The cost depends on how big the system is, the condition it’s in and access to every part of it. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so there are no surprises.
Helping us quote
There’s no need for technical detail. Just send:
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
- Wide photos of the system and the area around it
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
For canopy cleaning in Eddington, call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email. Tell us what kind of premises it is and when it’s open, and send pictures or your last report if you can. A fixed quote usually follows within one working day.
Multi-site and managed buildings
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.
Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.

Between visits
Here’s the after-treatment advice, short and simple:
- Tell us when the canopy starts to drip
- Keep filters on a set cleaning routine
- Run the extract the whole time you’re cooking
- Avoid harsh scourers that scratch the canopy
A full system clean comes with a TR19 certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. If the job covers only the canopy, the paperwork reflects that.
Keep the fan running throughout service and for a short while after. Air that keeps moving carries less grease onto the canopy.
