Canopy cleaning for sites in Colney Street

What staff can safely do

If your staff spot something between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We will take a look and give you a fixed quote.

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

How we handle canopy cleaning in Colney Street

We have been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. Typical jobs include a greasy hood noticed by an inspector and a filter housing caked in grease, across island canopies, canopy light fittings and baffle filters.

Somewhere as small as Colney Street, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Colney Street

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We’re happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and photos, so each one has its own record.

Different parts, different methods

Pub and hotel kitchens

Pub and hotel kitchens can cook from breakfast to late evening. That’s a lot of grease on the canopy, and canopy cleans between full cleans can help.

Island canopies

With filters on more than one side, an island canopy has more plenum to clean. Both sides are taken apart and cleaned.

Why deal with it now?

When grease clogs the filters and plenum, the canopy can’t draw air as it should. Smoke and heat hang around the cooking line while the fan strains. A clean canopy and plenum let the extract do its job. With notice, the visit to Colney Street can be fitted around your bookings and events.

We don’t list prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form, and we will explain what it covers.

Between visits

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Clean the hood’s outer surfaces daily
  • Do not scrape the canopy with metal tools
  • Keep the fan on through service
  • Clean the baffle filters often

Keep the photo report with your maintenance log where an inspector can see it. Photos of a clean canopy and plenum make the record easy to follow.

The best thing a kitchen can do for its canopy is keep the filters clean. Wash or exchange them regularly, and never cook with one missing. The plenum behind them stays cleaner.

The process

The first job on site is protection: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. It takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. The timing of a visit to Colney Street is set by you, and the travel is our side of the planning.

  1. We look at the canopy, filters and troughs first.
  2. Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. Inside and out, the hood and its troughs are cleaned.
  5. Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in

Advice

How we price canopy cleaning

The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • What state the system is in

Every site is different, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

What to send for a quote

Photos let us diagnose from a distance. The most useful are:

  • The postcode and the type of business
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings

To help us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, a few pictures and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

Questions from Colney Street

Will you come out to Colney Street?

Yes. Colney Street is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Can school kitchens in Colney Street be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. With about 5 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Colney Street, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Tell us your holiday dates and we will book the visit for when the site is empty.

Why does grease run off the canopy edge?

Most drips come from overflowing troughs, damaged filters or a plenum thick with grease. We clean the canopy, plenum and troughs and tell you what we find.

How long is a canopy clean?

It takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. Your quote will give a time.

Is TR19 a legal requirement?

No, not in itself. Insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to TR19® as the benchmark, and many insurers ask for proof of cleaning to it. The legal duty sits in the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 in England and Wales.

What information do you need?

Only a few details: the address, the site type, your opening hours and how we reach the system. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. Then call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

Can you clean the canopy outside our opening hours?

We clean when the kitchen is closed: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. The range must be switched off and cooled first.

Can you set up regular visits?

Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, to suit the system and how it’s used.

If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Park Street Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School or anywhere near Colney Street, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.
