Canopy cleaning near Clifton

Multi-site and managed buildings

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We’re happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across Oxfordshire. Larger estates can be phased building by building to keep disruption down.

Canopy cleaning in Clifton, done properly

Think of the canopy as the mouth of the extract. If it’s coated in grease, everything downstream gets more of it. We start the check-up there, and the cure is a thorough clean of the hood, the plenum and the filter housing. If you have a canopy that no longer draws the smoke away and condensation and grease dripping together, we can put it right, from island canopies, plenum chambers and grease gutters onwards.

Somewhere as small as Clifton, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

Why act early in Clifton

When grease clogs the filters and plenum, the canopy can’t draw air as it should. Smoke and heat hang around the cooking line while the fan strains. Cleaning restores the path the air should take. Systems in rural buildings are often out of sight and out of mind.

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are unsure, call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

How it works

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. The timing of a visit to Clifton is set by you, and the travel is our side of the planning.

  1. The canopy is checked from photos or on a visit.
  2. Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.

What affects the cost of canopy cleaning

The survey tells us what the work involves. We look at:

  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • The condition of the system
  • How big the system is
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule

Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before work begins.

Asking for a quote

What to send for a quote:

  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall

Need a price for canopy cleaning? Please call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and tell us about the site. We will explain what we’d do and send a fixed quote before anything is booked.

Common questions in Clifton

Which fire authority looks after Clifton?

Fire safety enforcement in Clifton is handled by Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.

Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Clifton?

In Clifton, it’s Cherwell council that carries out food hygiene inspections. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.

What is TR19?

It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It covers how systems are inspected, cleaned and checked, and it takes a risk-based approach.

Do we need to close the kitchen for a canopy clean?

The clean is done out of hours: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. The range must be switched off and cooled first.

Do you clean canopies in all kinds of kitchens?

We clean canopies in commercial kitchens of every kind. The routine stays the same whatever the kitchen, with the equipment off and cool.

How much does canopy cleaning cost in Clifton?

Size, condition, access and working hours all affect the cost. Call for a fixed quote, usually ready within one working day.

What do you need from me for a quote?

A short description and a few pictures, with the address and opening hours. We will ask for anything else we need.

What do you do with what you remove?

Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. None of it is left on site.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Keeping the system healthy

Good habits slow the build-up between visits. Our tips:

  • Use non-abrasive cloths on the hood
  • Report new drips or smells from the canopy
  • Wash or exchange the filters on a regular cycle
  • Clean the hood’s outer surfaces daily

A full system clean comes with a TR19 certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. If the job covers only the canopy, the paperwork reflects that.

Keep the fan running throughout service and for a short while after. Air that keeps moving carries less grease onto the canopy.

Grease, kitchens and Clifton

The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 3 restaurants, cafés and works canteens within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Clifton. Where they cook under a hood, the plenum behind the filters is where grease hides. Clifton is covered by Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. Food hygiene inspections in Clifton are the job of Cherwell council’s environmental health team. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

School and staff canteen kitchens

School and canteen kitchens often cook to set hours, which makes a canopy clean easy to schedule. We often clean them in holidays or at weekends.

Wall canopies

Wall canopies sit against a wall over a cooking line. Grease often collects where the canopy meets the wall, so we clean along it as well as the inner skin.
