Hertfordshire · Canopy and hood cleaning
Benslow canopy cleaning
One call covers canopy cleaning in Benslow, from survey to sign-off. CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, ISO 9001 and fully insured.
- Overflowing grease troughs and gutters
- Heavy deposits behind the grease filters
- Fat running down the front of the hood
Aftercare tips
Simple habits between visits make a real difference. We recommend:
- Make sure filters sit tight in the housing
- Empty the grease troughs before they fill
- Leave the extract running until cooking stops
- Avoid harsh scourers that scratch the canopy
We clear away the sheeting, waste grease and water before we leave. Filters are back in place and seated properly, and the kitchen is ready to cook.
The best thing a kitchen can do for its canopy is keep the filters clean. Wash or exchange them regularly, and never cook with one missing. Less grease gets into the plenum as a result.
How we handle canopy cleaning in Benslow
Grease troughs, seams and the inside edge of the canopy are the spots a daily wipe misses. We scrape the heavy deposits, then degrease the surfaces with methods that suit the build-up, using hot water or steam where it helps. If you are dealing with grease filters blocking between washes and grease dripping from the canopy edge, we can help, from baffle filters, plenum chambers and grease gutters onwards.
Around a smaller place like Benslow, kitchen extracts tend to belong to pubs, cafés, takeaways and school or care home kitchens. A kitchen that cooks fewer hours still builds up grease, so the interval is set by hours of use and grease readings.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

How the job changes from site to site
Grease troughs and gutters
Where a trough drains into a grease cup, we empty and clean that as well, and we will show staff where it is.
Plenums and filter housings
Filter housings hold the filters in place, and their channels fill with grease. Clean housings let the filters seat properly and leave no gaps.
Benslow questions
Which fire service covers Benslow?
It’s Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Benslow. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
Do you clean school canteen extracts around Benslow out of term?
Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. Around Benslow, the Food Standards Agency lists about 18 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Just call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with your term dates and we will plan around them.
Will I get a report after the canopy clean?
You get a photo report with before and after pictures. If the canopy is cleaned as part of a full TR19 clean, a TR19 certificate is issued too.
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, depending on what the system needs.
What is TR19?
A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. You deal with one contact for every site in our area, and visits can be set on a regular cycle.
Will we have to shut during the visit?
Not normally. Visits are timed for when the area is closed, such as overnight or at a weekend, so you keep your normal hours.
Is TR19 cleaning required by law?
No, not in itself. Insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to TR19® as the benchmark, and many insurers ask for proof of cleaning to it. The legal duty sits in the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which applies in England and Wales.
How it works
A visit follows the same order every time: protect the area, isolate whatever needs isolating, carry out the canopy cleaning, clear away and hand over the paperwork. The visit itself takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. A site near Benslow usually has room to park, so the questions are about access to the system and your hours.
- We look at the canopy first, from photos or on a visit.
- Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
- We remove the grease filters and clean the plenum and filter housing.
- We degrease the canopy shell, its seams and the grease troughs.
- We refit the filters, clear up and photograph the finished canopy.
Getting ready for the visit
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
- Move anything stored near the system
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
Getting a quote
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your pictures and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before any work starts.
Advice
When to call us in Benslow
A canopy in Benslow picks up grease at much the same rate as one anywhere else with the same cooking: the hours and the type of cooking decide how fast. High-heat cooking coats it fastest.
Most sites get in touch when they notice something like this:
- A sticky, discoloured canopy
- Heavy deposits behind the grease filters
- Condensation running down the canopy
- Grease dripping from the canopy edge
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of the Holy Saviour or elsewhere in Benslow, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.
Questions to ask before you book
- How areas they can’t reach will be recorded
- When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
- Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
- Whether a survey comes first
How we price canopy cleaning
We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:
- What state the system is in
- The times the site is available
- A single visit or a regular plan
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.
What to send for a quote
Photos let us diagnose from a distance. Try to include:
- Any previous report or certificate
- Problems your staff have spotted
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
Here’s what helps us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, photos of the system and any previous report or certificate. Once you have those, call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.
More services for Benslow
Why act early in Benslow
A canopy clean in Benslow now stops the grease spreading further. The work takes a few hours for most canopies, out of hours so service carries on. Left alone, grease keeps moving into the plenum and duct. When a site near Benslow shuts unexpectedly, the people who rely on it notice at once.
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Problems in a system tend to grow, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are not sure what’s needed, call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Every visit ends with a dated report and pictures, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.
