Canopy cleaning across Alkerton

Canopy cleaning in Alkerton, done properly

Of the whole extract system, the canopy is the bit on show. Being first in line, it collects grease on the inside surfaces, along the seams and in the troughs. We clean it inside and out, along with the plenum and filter housing behind it. The work covers grease gutters, wall canopies and plenum chambers, and people most often call us about greasy streaks across the canopy and a filter housing caked in grease.

Somewhere as small as Alkerton, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

For insurers and inspectors, the record counts. That’s why every job is written up in a report with pictures, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

FAQs for Alkerton

Do you work at weekends in Alkerton?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. The work in Alkerton can fit around your hours. Just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with your opening times and we will plan around them.

Who inspects food businesses in Alkerton?

That is Cherwell council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Alkerton. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.

Is the inside of the hood cleaned?

The full canopy, inside and out, and the plenum behind it. Grease troughs and filter channels are emptied and degreased as part of the job.

How long does canopy cleaning take?

One lightly soiled hood does not take long, but large or heavily soiled canopies take longer. You’ll know before any work starts.

Do you offer emergency callouts?

Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7, for problems that can’t wait. Call us any time and explain what’s happened.

Is Alkerton in your area?

Yes. We cover Alkerton and the rest of Oxfordshire, as part of our work across South East England and London. To book, ring 0345 646 2711 or email us.

How far ahead should we book?

Earlier is better, especially for out-of-hours work. Quotes usually come back within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes, always. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey tells us what the system needs and how to reach it, and the quote is based on that.

Leave it or put it right?

Grease dripping from the hood can fall onto food, pans and worktops. That is a hygiene problem as well as a fire one, and EHOs look at the cleanliness of the premises and equipment. Rural sites can’t always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.

What you pay depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.

How the visit works

We’re used to working while the site is closed. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. On site, the work takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. Somewhere like Alkerton, lanes, gates and parking are worth mentioning in advance.

  1. The canopy is checked from photos or on a visit.
  2. Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Clear the space around the work

How to get a quote

To get a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You’ll usually have a quote within one working day.

Aftercare tips

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Keep filters on a set cleaning routine
  • Check filters are not leaving gaps
  • Keep the fan on through service
  • Clean the hood’s outer surfaces daily

File the report alongside your fire risk assessment, so it’s ready when an EHO, insurer or fire officer asks. Photos of a clean canopy and plenum make the record easy to follow.

Keep the fan running throughout service and for a short while after. Air that keeps moving carries less grease onto the canopy.

Do you need canopy cleaning in Alkerton?

Moisture in the air mixes with the grease on the canopy. Water vapour condenses on the cooler canopy surfaces and drips, carrying grease with it. Drips onto the cooking line are a common result.

The symptoms we are asked about most include:

  • Filters that clog soon after cleaning
  • Fat running down the front of the hood
  • Condensation and grease dripping together
  • A sticky, discoloured canopy

If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Michael or elsewhere in Alkerton, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

Questions to ask before booking

  • What’s included in the scope, part by part
  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or photos
  • Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
  • How VAT is shown on the quote

When something else is needed

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work cannot put right:

  • A fan that can’t pull enough air because it’s worn out
  • Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)
  • Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)

If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will say what we think before booking.

What the work covers

  • Island canopies
  • Wall canopies
  • Grease gutters
  • Plenum chambers
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Baffle filters

What your team can do, and what needs us

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.

What affects the quote in Alkerton

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We check:

  • The size of the system
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • The number of sites or systems
  • The condition we find in the survey

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.

What to send for a quote

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your photos and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before we start.

Grease, kitchens and Alkerton

The fire and rescue service for Alkerton is Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. Food hygiene inspections in Alkerton are the job of Cherwell council’s environmental health team. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.

Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Upton House is about 1.9 miles north), access may need planning. School kitchens, at schools like Shenington Church of England Primary School for example, are typically cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.
