What we are called out for in Worthing

Air handling units are normally tucked away on roofs, in plant rooms or above ceilings and are rarely seen by anyone but maintenance staff. Months can pass without anyone looking inside.

Any of these means the system needs a check-up:

  • Dirty filters cutting the airflow
  • Dust built up on fan impellers
  • Intake sections clogged with outdoor debris
  • Coils clogged with dust and debris

School buildings such as Durrington High School are typically done in the holidays, so classrooms are not disturbed.

Questions to ask before booking

AHU cleaning in Worthing

We clean the parts of the unit where dirt and moisture gather: filters, coils, drain trays, fans and the internal panels. Every clean comes with a TR19® certificate and before and after photos in a report. The work covers internal panels, filter sections and supply and extract fans, and people most often call us about drain trays holding standing water and units needing a clean before a new tenant or handover.

Work in occupied buildings in Worthing is planned around the people using them, so we work zone by zone, out of hours where necessary.

For insurers and inspectors, the record counts. So every job comes with a written report and photos, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

The process

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before we start, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes anything from half a day for one small unit to several shifts for a plant room full of them. Where a site in Worthing has more than one system, we can take them one at a time to keep the rest running.

  1. We look at the unit and the plant area during the survey.
  2. The area is protected and the unit made safe.
  3. Each section is cleaned of dust, debris and slime.
  4. We clean the coils and clear the tray and drain.
  5. We close every panel, hand the unit back and send the report and certificate.

Before we arrive

  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Find the previous report, if there is one

Related advice

What the work involves, part by part

Drain trays

Standing water in a tray sits right where the air passes. We clean it and note if the slope or the drain needs attention.

Filters

Filters are the first line of defence in the unit. As part of the clean, filters are checked and cleaned or replaced as agreed, and the housing around them is cleaned too.

Your questions about AHU cleaning in Worthing

Is AHU cleaning available in Worthing?

Yes, Worthing is covered. A fixed quote normally follows within one working day of the survey details.

Do you clean school ventilation in Worthing in the holidays?

Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. Around Worthing, the Food Standards Agency lists about 18 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Tell us your holiday dates and we’ll book the visit for when the site is empty.

What do you do to protect the area?

Protection goes down first: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. Photos often do the job, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.

Are you accredited?

Our accreditations are CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, alongside BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.

What should I send you?

A short description and a few pictures, with the address and opening hours. If we need more, we’ll ask.

Can you clean the AHU out of hours?

Yes, wherever it helps the building. Tell us when the unit can go off and we’ll work to that.

How much notice do you need?

Earlier is better, especially for out-of-hours work. Quotes typically come back within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.

What affects the quote in Worthing

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • The number of sites or systems
  • The scale of the work
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • The condition of the system

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before we start.

Asking for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in touch, it helps to send:

  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to

Need a price for AHU cleaning? Please give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and tell us about the site. We’ll explain what we’d do and send a fixed quote before anything is booked.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Keep inspection doors on the unit in good order
  • Store the TR19 paperwork where auditors can find it
  • Report musty smells from the vents straight away
  • Stick to the filter change plan

Photos in the report cover the filters, coils, drain tray, fan and casing, along with anything we couldn’t reach. It also notes faults we spotted, such as damaged panels or a blocked drain.

Regular filter changes are the best protection an AHU has. Overloaded filters let more dirt through to the coils and fan.

What AHU cleaning can’t fix

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work cannot put right:

  • Damaged coils beyond cleaning
  • Ductwork downstream of the unit, which is a separate clean
  • Faulty motors, drives or bearings

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Every visit ends with a dated report and photos, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.
